Okay, who's been here? Trunk brake light works, main brake lights will not.I have changed the bulbs and checked the fuse. This baffles me since one part of the system works it tells me the switch is okay.

Any thoughts?!! Oh yeah, it's the '91 mothership.

Our Q's are very sensitive to non-OEM bulbs and like to have them changed out in pairs, especially the brake lights. Get your bulbs from Infiniti or use Sylvannia LL (long life).

If you violated this rule you may have melted a socket. Take a look at all the sockets where you've changed bulbs and see what you find. Do a search and you'll see many cases of brake light problems after changing a burned out bulb. Good luck.

How many times have the two entire brake/running light sockets [3 lamp assembly] been replaced they have a finite life with non Toshiba bulbs. Even the Sylvania LL are not up to oem specs closer than most just not perfect.

At 310k I'm on set #3.

Sometimes the excessive current draw [from improper/defective bulbs] will melt/burn the circuit paths in the bulb current sensor [warning] assembly.............try a replacement.

This Q has just recently become my daily driver eventhough I've owned her for several years. Will the things to be on the lookout for ever end?

As long as I've had the Q only replaced one headlight so far.

What are the odds that both sides would go at the same time. Is there a commonality? I don't know for sure when they went out. Someone on the road let me know, so I don't know if they went together or not. just quessing they did as the last time I checked them in a window all were good just recently.

FYI, when I bought I did a vin pull at dealer to check service record, all criticals were already done. Found you guys over at Yahoo .

1.) Not if you don't practice prevntative maintenance!

2.) Don't think for a minute that dealer/OEM service schedule is adequate for long term care. It is just to get the car through warranty period so future bills become the owner's responsibility.

3.) Glad the yahoo board worked for you! Welcome over!

Oh I do practice prevent best I can, just meant the only bulb I replaced so far is the headlamp.

Done so far:

plenum and hoses, brks, injectors, alternator and all belts, trans svc, rade flush--both, plugs and tune, sunroof switch, various sundries, etc.

I bought this car based on that I owned four Z's and never had any crying issues with any. Lost the last one in a major crunch. My wife took my sports rights away says its time for a big safe car. Two classic bikes had to go too.

I thought I was lucky a Q45 was waiting in the wings. Didn't know Nissan overreached and/or cut some corners for their luxury push in late 80's.

They didn't, it was teh best car they could build at the time (and through 2001). They just expected dumb gaijin to maintain the cars to Japanese levels.

So it's easier or better to replace the 3-bulb assembly instead of that individual socket? Either way i'll need one since brake socket melted the other day.

Change the sockets my man. Even if you got the entire replacment used, you wouldn't know the history of it.

Change all the sockets at the same time then use new bulbs.

Did you ever have the timing chain guides replaced?

Yeah, I did a dealer printout and the records did have the chain guide updates and the rear speaker probs fixed by the previous owner. I've been buying used long enough to know you have got to know what you are getting into if you can help it.

I was able to finally trace the source of my brake issues to the sensor in the trunk. Pulled it , cleaned contacts, and replugged. Lights are working fine again. What a great site this is!
