I went with a friend 330 miles to pick up this car I won on Ebay. I was going to buy the car and drive it back home. The car looked awesome and really did smell new. When I took the car for a test drive I noticed the idle was a little rough. When I would give it gas I knew something was wrong by the way it sounded. It sounded like a cylinder was not firing or an injector was bad. I drove the car for a few minutes and then punched it and I was not impressed. The car did not have the acceleration I expected. I drove a NA with 80,000 miles and it even seemed slower then that car (not saying the NA is SUPER SLOW). The Ebay seller is selling it for a friend and said that he never got on it and that it just needs to be driven. It sat up for 5 years and most of the mileage was within the first 2 years. I did not want to pay for the car and have something major go wrong on the drive home.

While I was still in town he changed the plugs and one had tons of carbon buildup. The plugs might have helped the idle 10% but still did not sound correct when accelerator was depressed. Not that great throttle response and sounded worst between 1500 & 2800 RPM's. He said he would drive it on the interstate and blow it out. I left town with the intention of returning to buy back the car when the problems are fixed.

He sent me a message saying #5 injector was not working and he was going to fix it. My question is should I change all the injectors or just have him replace #5 because the car only has 22,000 miles. He said the original mufflers had some tiny holes and it sounds that way.

Did I make the correct decision to not take the car? I was expecting for the money was spending that the car would be in tip top running condition. I know I have to do the 60,000 maintenance.

THANKS

That's a long way to pick up a car holy crap but I guess with 22k miles its worth it :gapteeth:

Stock fuel injectors usually go bad from age, so they are all probably on their way out. One or two may be bad now but they will all go sooner or later.

How was the car stored for those 5 years? Alot the seals and such tend to get brittle if they don't get lubricated often enough.

The car was stored in a garage and said it was started every now and then (whatever that means)
The underneath is bone dry around the motor and rack.

Well that's good. I know someone on here (maybe Ace?) started a Z that was stored for a while and basically everything started leaking because of dry seals.

Anyway, problems with the fuel injectors will cause all kinds of problems driving/running, especially misfire and power issues

Thanks for your help. Ace replied to my 1st post about the price of the car. The car looked good underneath but you never know what can happen. It was stored in Louisiana which has allot of humidity, and the owner said that helps keep the seals lubricated. I do not know if that makes any sense.

Once he has the car running up to par I will drive from New Orleans back to Shreveport to pick her up. The interior looks and smells brand new, the T tops were never removed. The only thing was I found a small ding on the drivers door and a larger one on the quarter panel. A chip or two on the fender but the front bumper and hood did not have anything chips and looked awesome.

Sounds like :bs: , it was probably starting it every once in a while that saved all the seals from drying out.

Agree with the above. Humidity has nothing to do with hydrophobic rubber parts.
