91 se-r axle not seating?

A great resource for Nissan Sentra, Infiniti G20, 200sx, Pulsar, NX1600, NX2000, Tsuru, Primera and Sunny owners.

I have a 91 nissan sentra, rebuilt trans, new mechanical everything. Last hang up, axle sits out 1/4 in. from trans on drivers side.

Causing a leak, and i'm sure will create more damage but runs fine for now. I tried replacing axle and double checking size, and making sure C ring didn't hang up. :wtf2:

I think it may be shotty trans rebuild, any thoughts or common problem resolution?

(this is my last hang up before I re-swap my gtir motor) :woot:

These are a PITA to seat in... I have literally banged and banged at them and then magically it will pop into place.

What was your technique for seating your axle?

I was hitting nut with plastic sledge hammer while holding axle straight, any other suggestions?

I actually grab the outter shaft and you can feel there is some play without pulling the boot off and I use it as a ram against the inner section....one other recommendation is putting some heavy duty grease around the c ring so it stays in place a little better.
