Okay, so I tried searching, and have found nothing about this, I also called a few people and they think im on drugs...

but i swear its happening

the best way i can explain the problem is that my shifter is not properly aligned. First is around where 3rd is on my friends s13 and 5th and reverse hit the trim when i go into those gears.

I wouldn't mind really, but its starting to crack the center console bezel. :

I recently bought the car and have no idea of its past history.

any input/suggestions are appreciated :

you can loosen the 4 trans mount bolt and move the transmission, also check and make sure the engine mounts are properly aligned in the subfram, and lastly what kinda of shifter is it?

so the transmission doesn't bolt into the bracket, it just rests on the the bracket?

I can't imagine transmission alignment causing this. Bent shifter/linkage? Besides shecking the engine/transmission mounts you could pull the shifter out and inspect. I don't think there is any external linkage adjustments to be made.
