ok soo one day i was driving the freeway and i got off and when drove i back on, the on ramp i took was pretty sharp and when i got around it and it straightened out my speedometer just stopped working... soo today i took out my cluster and and tried to see if it was the needle or the little motor the the needle sets in but nothing worked so i figured id get over it but once everything was back in my gas gauge went to full and i only have right below a quarter tank i have no idea what caused it cause i never messed with that part of the cluster... please can someone help me??? could it be a ground possibly? or the float?

Just reseat the plugs and see if that solves the gas gauge issue.

As for the speedo, make sure the speed sensor on the trans didn't come unplugged or get damaged by road debris. It's near the the output of the transmission, and looks like a big fat cylinder held in with a bolt.

Something sounds like it's shorting the system then. The power should go battery -> fuse -> cluster -> gauge -> sending unit -> ground. If it gets grounded anywhere between the sending unit and the cluster, the system will see no load on the signal wire and assume the tank is full. Make sure there aren't any rub throughs on the harness. Your wrestling with the harnesses might have caused an unintentional contact somewhere. Also double check all the grounds from the cluster as well. Other than that, you can check the fuel sending unit is functioning properly by checking the resistance across the terminals. It should be low resistance for when the tank is full (float up) at around 4-5 ohms, and 78-84 ohms when the float is down.

Cluster is easy to find and cheap at junkyards. Just get another one and swap it out and see.
