The grounding wire that connects with the battery wire on the alternator somehow came loose and the battery wire shorted and burnt in half. The nut and rubber boot on it obviously melted. When I tried taking off the nut, it broke off along with the threaded body. So it actually wasn't a screw because a nut was holding the wire on. Now, that threaded piece is broke off and hopefully it wasn't part of the alternator. I'm wondering if it can be maybe drilled out and replaced or am I in for a new alternator? I was able to cut off the burnt up parts of the wire on the harness and re solder a new end piece on. I can't really tell what needs to be done to the alternator though because that area is so f'd up. I think either way I will need to jack up the car and take it off and do whatever I have to do to it. Any suggestions?
