These are supposedly replacement exhaust valve stem seals for my 91 VH45DE. However when measuring the old seals with the measurements provided on that website, and measuring the guides and valves in the head ... the inside diameters are way different!!

Has anyone used these and can assure me they are correct?

I'm in australia so i dont really want to waste the time and money for them to be the wrong seals. FWIW genuine ones over here are VERY expensive!!!! so i dont really want to get genuine

Or does anyone know of a non genuine replacement part that DOES work 100% guarentee?? After exhaust valve stem seals only

The valve stem seals are VITON . THe most exotic and expensive material. These are the ultimate performance first = dang the cost solution! These allow an extremely tight seal with little friction. I would NOT replace them. Just clean the valve stems spotless and use old ones......make sure you place valves back in order.

Almost impossible to rebuild a Q motor in the field as the tolerances are just too tight.

Weigh the rods and pistons as an assembly I'll bet they are still matched to 1 gram [once you clean the varnish off].

Why these engines last 300,000 miles and don't use oil, if they got the every 90 day oil change!

PLEASE DON"T USE JUNK AFTER MARKET PARTS.

You should be able to find something in Aus -- what's the ID and OD of the guides?

What do they cost in Australia ? I got the full engine rebuild kit here for like 375 bux and that included all the needed o-rings, gaskets, seals etc. I need to look as I rebuild so many engines lately that one of the engines I did came with 2 sets of valve seals. It might be a VH of my own that I rebuild and got a set of spare seals with the kit.

How are your lifter o-rings doing ? When I pulled out my lifters out of the head the O-rings fell apart. I couldn't just buy new ones, was forced to buy 32 lifters for 36 bux a piece......... I decided no to use any Orings at all on the lifters and nothing has happened, they took a while to bleed all the air out of the lifters but in the last 4K miles I've accumulated on my rebuild engine I do not have any engine noises, oil leaks or oil burning problems. Just a lil FYI on the lifter O-rings as no one seemed to know anything bout them when I enquired months ago.... similar design is used on a few Mazda motors and they run great with no O-rings.

Why with JDM engines so cheap [and assumming you live somewhere near a wholesaler so you can view and select from inventory] would you rebuild internally?

Except for racing applications.

you answered you own question. race application. actually more for piece of mind as most JDM engines are complete and utter sh*t

thanks for the above information. i wont use anything other than genuine then if that is the case. i wont however re-use 110,000 km old exhaust valve stem seals ... i dont need oil flowing out my exhaust and into my $2000 turbo

Blackbird ... they use generation 3 4G63 lifters (or are very similar) ... no HLA o-rings in my engine

Robert ... no luck matching the exhaust valve stem seals ... some volvo ones were similar but i'm not going to risk it

ezekial, there is a company called pro-fit that has a million different seals available based on size. It's the main company we use for seals and gaskets at work. I can't find the website, but one of your local rebuilders should have some info on pro-fit. You can order custom tophat or viton seals to the ID, OD, height, and valve stem diameter you want.

I would advise to NEVER ever put old stem seals back in once you have them out. If you have the valves out of a VH, you need to check guide/stem clearance and replace the guides if possible. That is what wears out the stem seals the quickest - loose guides. The tolerances in a VH head are no different than other similar dohc heads. They might not use "smallblock chevy" clearances, but they aren't too special to not be rebuilt.

In addition to the 3g eclipse lifters, you can have the lifter bores reamed out a few thousandths and you can use 4.6/5.4 sohc ford lifters.

But the Q engine doesn't have lifters in the common use of the word..the HLA are just there to adjust the lash vs rpm. Roller rockers and cam followers.
