I just recently put in a rebuilt transmission into my Q45, however today my torque converter, which was also rebuilt, FAILED!!! When I was at a stop light, I accelerated and the car just started slipping and the car would not get movement, also when I put it into reverse, I had no movement. I'm pretty sure it was the cheap torque converter that I installed. So does anyone know of where I can purchase a quality torque converter? Hopefully, the next one will have a much longer lifespan than the last one! Have any of your guys installed an aftermarket torque converter that has lasted for several years and has been reliable? Please any recommendations on what torque converter to use will be helpful in my next TC purchase, just need a good quality torque converter that will last! Thanks!

Hopefully it didn't disentegrate and send fragments back into your transmission like mine did a few days ago..

I would check out a TC from LevelTen in the link below

Thanks for replying! Yeah, I'm worried about those fragments from the TC inside my transmission, but if I can replace the TC for a good one and it works, I'll just drive it and flush it sometime in the near future! I paid about $150 for mine to be sent out and rebuilt by a company from a local trans parts supplier and this thing didn't even last in the Q! I think that the power and the heat from the Q being transferred to the transmission from the engine caused it to fail!

No, poor rebuilding,re-installation,or lack of removing debris from transmission before reinstalling it caused the failure.........power and heat had nothing to do with it,or every transmission would be experiencing extremely short torque converter life, and that certainly is not the case with any series q45.

Expect another very short lived converter when you replace it again if you do not remove ALL debris{in the ENTIRE transmission assembly, cooling lines, and heat exchangers} BEFORE reinstalling it.Viscous cycle you got going on there.....time to break it,before it breaks another part!

I did a pretty meticulous job in my rebuild, cleaned everything, it was very time consuming and I'm aware that even the smallest particle that gets stuck in your valve body can cause slippage! But I'm pretty sure my TC is my problem this time around, during my rebuild I found that the cause of my grinding when shifting gears was attributed to having burned clutches in my high clutch! However I replaced the oring in my speedometer because it was leaking, could have gotten some debris in there at that point. I'm pretty sure my rebuild was done properly, took lots of pictures and triple checked everything to the point it got on my nerves. This was only the second transmission I've rebuilt , the first was the J30 and the transmissions were pretty much the same except the Q had beefier parts. I'm still learning, this is one of those obstacles that make you pull your hair out when trying to repair your car I guess. I think I read in nico at one point that using a cheap rebuilt TC will not last very long, mine lasted just a few hundred miles. But maybe I just installed the transmission incorrectly, next time I do this I'll probably do things a little different, was loving the way the car was driving until the car wouldn't move forward! Everything shifted nicely, yesterday I took it for a 60 mile ride and luckily it didn't fail far from my city, went to get some taco bell and everything went down hill on the way home!
