Hey there folks! I'm retiring my Bridgestone Potenza RE940 225/60ZR15's and am trying to figure out what tires I should use next. The RE940's really seemed to wear out fast and seem to shudder and hop a little when going around turns too quickly. I live in Oregon and as you may know, we get alot of rain up here. I drive somewhat agressivly and my '91 Q45 is lowered 2" via Weapon-R coil-over sleeves on Tokico Blue struts. I'm lookin for a good performing tire that can handle wet weather well, yet be able to stick to the turns. Most of all, it has to last. I've heard people recommending before the Yokohama AVS Intermediates, but their wet traction seems to not be up to par. Please give me some suggestions and help a fellow Infiniti goober out. Thanks!!!

I've found the AVS Intermediates to be very good in rain (as long as they have plenty of tread). Softer tires are better in rain, and those tires are very soft (160 treadwear). Amazing handling and braking.

But they're pretty bad in cold weather, say below 40-50 degrees. Very lumpy until they warm up. I'm assuming it gets cold there in the winter?

I'm about to order another set to use next summer, only $49 in 225/60/15 Z-rated at tirerack.

Yoko AVS dB is good in rain per directional tread pattern ($70 each).

I think the Firestones are supposed to be good rain tires, but forgot the model name. About $115 each??

Just had a set of Yoko AVS DB's in 215/65/15 installed. Really like them so far, but they're still brand new. Nice and quiet and great grip. They're also available in a 225/60/15 if I remember correctly. Both are V rated and have a 95 load index but the 215's do so at 35psi as opposed to 44psi with the 225's. Anyway, may have a better assessment a few more miles down the road.

Better selection of tires "out there" if you go to 16" rims. About to dump my Potenzas, too.

I agree on the 16" recommendation. Ideally, I was planning on a set of 4 16x8.5 300ZXTT rear wheels or a nice forged 16x8 wheel (tough to find in the right offset) and a set of 255/50/16's (99 load index). This, to me, seems to be the perfect fit for the Q.

Also 'considering' a 17" tire in 255/45/17 (same outside diameter as the stock 215/65/15's with a 98 load index) but this would require a 17x8.5" wheel with a 38-35mm offset. Have had no luck finding one of these yet. The OZ Superleggera looks great at 7kgs (~15.5 lbs) but it's in 17x8 and would be a bit slim for a 255/50/17 tire. A 245/45/17 would fit but is slightly shorter and is tough to find above a 95 load index.

Unfortunately, had a blow out and had to go ahead and get a new set of 15's. Figure I'll do the wheel upgrade after this set wears out.

Do what I do.... don't blow money on rims, just spend a little extra on swapping tires from summer to winter. It costs about $50 every 6 months, plus a box of clear can liners (big trash bags) which fit tires perfectly!! (most trash bags are too small)

I've spent too much time cleaning my pie pans wheels to get rid of them.... teased w/the 300Z idea for a while, but that significantly increases the cost of wheels/tires without a significant gain in performance!
