my 91 q45 runs extreamly rich, so rich it fouls the plugs after driving it maybe ten minutes, I am talking gasoline smoke, and tons of it. my ecu just gives me code 55 and that is it. I checked my aac valve and it doesnt do like the book says it should when disconecting it, and my egr when pushing the valve up manually it doesn't do anything either when it should.would these cause that rich condition. I changed my mass air flow sensor and it still does it. All 8 of my injectors click, so I know that one of them isn't stuck open. Any ideas. Thanks Mike

CHeck your injectors, it may still click..... thats about the only thing that could cause that....

Dont drive the car anymore with it like that, you are literally shaving miles off the car everytime you start the car

what about a vacume leak, could that cause these symptoms, it only really starts smoking and smells like fuel after the car is warmed up a little bit and when giving it throttle. It was giving me a code 12, and really, I mean really smoking, then I changed the maf but hooked the ecu input wire to where the battery voltage wire should be and vise versa I never hooked the ground to the wrong place! Then I hooked it up the way it should be then it quit smoking until the car warms up. So I am thinking that the maf maybe shot again, but not sure. I checked the injectors and they are fine, I checked the coils and they are fine. Thinking about they are all new including the coil harness, same with the injectors and harness. anything else that would cause this. I am just happy my car starts after all the time and new stuff I put into it.Thanks Mike

CHeck the fuel pressure regulator. Pull the vac. hose that goes to it and sniff for fuel.

Sometimes the diaphragm bursts and allows fuel into the engine.

On the EGR and AAC, if the engine is running very very rich, they won't do what they are supposed to do because the ECU never sees the right 02 sensor voltage. They're a symptom, not a cause.

I just checked the fuel pressure regulator and it is good. it seams like it loading up on one cylinder. not all of them. Thanks Mike

Did you OHM each of the injectors ?

...or did you start it and then shut it off w/o letting it warm up ?

Does it shake when idling ?

55 means no malfunction. :confused

Well, that would rule out the MAF. It could be the injector sticking open.

Haven't you been having lots of trouble with this car? Could it just be flooded from all the starting attempts?

Start it and let it idle for a while and see if it clears out. If not, I'd ohm that injector, or at least use a socket extension to listen for it clicking.

yes it shakes just a little bit when ideling. I still think it may be the maf. I can unplug it for a second and then plug it back in and then it really smokes. but it is giving me the code for everything is good. I have a computer I bought from someone on and it has all these upgrades I wonder if that could cause my symptoms because my car is not taking the upgrades. Thanks Mike

How about overnight leak down?

I wonder if one of your "good" ohming injectors is leaking.

Mike - the ECU was from me. It is designed for all stock parts. Safer and more powerful than the JWT tune. Anyway, I'm sure that's not it.

I also doubt it's the MAF.

If it's only one cylinder, that points to a bad injector.

ya I didn't think it was the ecu, I just wnated to see if maybe my car wasn't taking it. I think your right, I am going to ohme them one more time after running the car a little bit. It just doesnt make sense it only starts the fuel smoke after it hasa warmed up a little bit. Got me!!!Thanks Mike

nope, no check engine light. must be one of my injectors. I will take the plugs out after running it a little bit and see which one is really wet, I bought new plugs and installed them so it should tell me. because all the injectors ohm good. Thanks Mike

I would remove plugs now as it should be apparent. Running one cylinder that rich is not wise.

Sounds like it could be a bad lower injector o-ring, if they ohm out nice. An infrared temperature sensor aimed at the exhaust tubes will tell which one is cool.....at least you'll know which one.

not just one of my plugs are foulded, they all are. It has to be my maf, I accidentlay wired it wrong when putting on new plug. I switched the battery voltage wire with the sensor wire. I think maybe i messed it up.
