My friend drooped off an old 91 JDM Q45 on my doorstep a few months ago and I finally got it running after reconstructing the hack job the PO did taking apart the intake (Vac lines were almost all destroyed, charcoal canister valve needs.replacement so it's unplugged).

It runs like s*** though. When started, it will idle around 500 and it's rough, usually dies in under 10 seconds. Given quarter to half throttle, it'll suddenly surge up after using the throttle and will stay that way, but without a lot of throttle it almost always dies immediately.

Any thoughts? It's been sitting for ages so I'm doing the fuel filter and I'm going to give the MAF a good clean. IACV is hooked up, can't find or hear any vacuum leaks so I'm a little stuck. The PO was kind of a joke, didn't seem to give two s*** about unhooking the clips without breaking plastic or anything of the sort, but I'm pretty certain I've got continuity across the connectors. Any insight would be appreciated.

Really sounds like a vacuum leak. I'd do some more checking and maybe pull up a diagram of vacuum hose routing to make sure you've got them all covered. Is this an actual Q45 or the VH45 swapped into something else?

This is a proper Q45. I'm not so certain about the vacuum leak, I'll take another look tonight (Unfortunately the car is outside and it is rainy and s*** this time of year) if I have the daylight left, but everything should be tightened down and connected.

Also clean the MAF connector and tighten the connector's pins. Do the same to the throttle position sensor (same style connector).

You also need to ohm test the fuel injectors and the knock sensors. Both are 5 minute jobs. Let us know the readings. The link gives you some items to troubleshoot for rough idle and the Q45 website tells you everything you'd want to know about the Q.

The ape that took this apart really didn't treat the TPS or MAF connectors with much restraint, so I'm going to have to work something out to keep them in place.

I've been super busy this week so I'll be taking a stab at the aforementioned things this weekend or next week, I've already cleaned the MAF and it didn't do the trick. I'm replacing all the plugs and doing a compression test to make sure I'm not wasting my time.

After some fiddling,I have it firing on all 8, but it will die without throttle. I'm thinking the AAC/IACV is dead
