I need replacement o-rings for my fuel injectors, wanted to know if I can use a round o-ring for the bottom of the injector instead of a flat one? The original is a flat o-ring, I'm looking for a substitute, has anyone used a round o-ring to replace the lower o-ring on a fuel injector? Also, can I mix the combination of the injectors, my original ones have the yellow dots and my replacements have the green dot?

I hate to be that guy but when it comes to the difference between a hydro locked engine because of a improperly seated o-ring or mismatched one I would buy it from the dealer. But the O-ring set I got from the dealer are rounded.

They should be round but yours have been sitting in the fuel rail cup compressed for 20 years. Hence the flat side. The pic shows the OEM o-rings. Are you replacing all 8 o-rings or just a couple for injector replacement?

Don't worry about the color of the dot on the FI. NICO lore has is that they were sorted by spray pattern but mixing dot colors at this point in the engine's life will have no perceptible effect on performance.

Thanks Mr. G, I'm replacing the o-rings for all injectors not within' ohm spec, my fifth cylinder wasn't firing and that injector wouldn't even ohm out, one injector was in the 30's and the third injector ohmed out about 10 (not sure if its good or bad, read that fl should ohm 10-14, just figured it would get low within' time). I'm replacing my bad injectors with a few used ones that I was able to acquire, that's the reason why I have mismatched ones. Thanks Infinitiguy19 and Mr. G for your help in answering my questions!

I'm pretty sure we have the specs for the phase I side feed injectors.

Our oring kits for 8-cylinders are $28 + shipping.

Typical failure mode is for them to rise until opening, rather than dropping. Either way, if you trust your ohm meter, you might as well replace it while you're in there. I would hold on to that one as a spare though.

First, always use vaseline (insented) to lubricate o-rings.... a poorly seated o-ring will cause you no end of grief.

When ohming the injectors, ohme them when HOT. To get them hot, drive your car to thoroughly warm it. When you get home, stop the car and wait ten minutes. The injectors will get hotter because the fuel flow is not cooling them any more.

Then pop the hood and ohm them quickly.

Even if in spec, if an injector changes a couple or more ohms between hot and cold readings, change it now, or remove the plenum a second time when it dies.

They are available from

I recommend Bill also for injector cleaning as he actually pressure tests the rail assemblies after assembly. Some others do not.
