91 Q45 with 147,000 miles.I was driving my Q at about 35mph on a deserted country road near my home. Engine simply died. Tachymeter dropped to zero. I popped the car into neutral while still rolling , attempted to start it. It fired for a nanosecond. Rolled to the side of the road. It will turn over but will not start. All electrics work fine. Please help.

Fuel- Air-Spark are the 3 things needed for combustion, so begin your check with these 3 systems, starting with the fuel system to include clogged filter, dead pump and fried fuel pump control unit. search this forum for tons of how to articles on checking these areas.

My apologies. I did search, but forgot to mention it. As far as recent repairs, had all the vacum hoses under the phlenum changed and a fuel injection service preformed December '08. (The check engine light prompted this). Had the oil changed last week. Other than that, the car has run great for the 10 years we have owned it. Can't be any more specific regarding the occurence. It simply stopped. No noise, no chugging...nothing. It was as if someone turned the key off.

"Had the oil changed last week" Ah, our first clue.....did they reach the oil filter from beneath the car, or from up top???? If by top, common to disturb wiring harness/connections to CAS, MAF and cause problems similar to what you are experiencing.

With the engine warm and in park wiggle MAF connector , lightly tap on MAF square housing, wiggle CAS connector...........one of these will probably create a rpm hiccup.

Why did you avoid answering these two questions?

The connection(s) may have failed as Q45tech suggested, but these two questions are still more important considerations.
