91 Q starter stays engaged
91 Q starter stays engaged
need help with this isssue, starter will stay running after engine is running. if it runs too long (2-3 seconds after engines is running) Ill turn engine off and once in a while it will stay running even after the engine is off and the key is off for a few seconds longer. is this an issue with the starter or an electrical malfunction? also can these starters be rebuilt or is it best to buy new? I have a local guy who does all my starter and alternator work but I havent asked him about it yet. thanks guys.

I would check the relay feeding the starter. It's blue and on the passenger side firewall. They usually fail open, but I'm sure it's possible to stick closed too. If you can get it to stay stuck on try tapping the relay - if it goes away you have your problem.

Hi Heath!
Nice weather here on the coast last few days allowed me to continue my search and destroy mission! Found and tapped lots of relays, but could not isolate anything. Interestingly, when I took it out again on local back roads, I could only get 2nd and 3rd gears to come up, other than reverse. Have an apt with Baker Motors (Infiniti one of his many makes!) for Thursday. Loaner promised, so that should be fun, a G35 like yours the last one they loaned me (after they dinged the M30) and, after fast trip out to Texas to look at real estate, nearly bought the thing! They may just have evil intent again on their mind! Hah! Not in this economy, sitting on 3 homes I would like to sell! I will let you know.
