Need your help please. My 91 Q45’s check engine light came on this spring. It ran fine with it on for a few months then I noticed excess cranking to start. Then I could smell it is running rich. Now it starts okay, has a high idle and when you put it in gear it stalls right away. It will also stall if I give it any throttle. I can’t find anyone with a Nissan consult OBD 1 scan tool. I went the second route and accessed the ECU to manually turn the screw to get the light to flash the code. I don’t know if this ECU is the original (I feel it isn’t) it only has a one red light and when I turn the screw either way it won’t flash. Also, it doesn’t make the yellow check engine light on the dash flash. I replaced the MAF sensor and made no difference. Any suggestions on how I can get the code so I know what to replace ?

Are you following the instructions in your factory service manual to pull the codes? There's a specific process to get the ECU to enter diagnostic mode.

I believe so. I turned the screw until it stops, waited two seconds and turned it back. Is that the correct procedure?

I haven't done it on my Q45 in years, so I don't recall the exact procedure - that's why I asked if you were following the procedure in the FSM.

I’ll look it up and see if I’m doing it right or wrong
