I have a 91 Nissan 240sx which is given me a headache. I have replaced the starter with a used one about two to three weeks ago, but three days after placing the used starter, my car started clicking again. But it always stars after a few clicks sound from the starter and it usually stars straight up first time in the morning. So because, I did not want to be stranded in the middle of nowhere, I went and replaced both the starter and the battery with brand new ones. Soon after replacing the battery and the starter, my car started right up. I turn off the car and went inside the auto parts store to return the core, but when I came back to my car the starter started clicking again. I tried for few time and went back inside Kraken auto parts to tell them about the trouble. One of the employees came out with me to check on the starter. I went to start the car and it just started. I left and went home, but since then almost I have to constantly try a few times with the clicking noise coming from the starter before my car can start. I went back to Kraken auto parts yesterday for them to check on my new battery and starter and they checked my battery was giving 14 volts and the starter seams in good working condition. What else might be wrong with my car?

Mods! Please move to appropriate section.

Noobert(mkeita1b), please pay attention to the big flashing search icon, and navigation. The 240sx chassis section is that way. =>

Please note that it also has subsections to explore as well. Welcome to NICO by the way. Aside from the wonderful world of sarcasm located on this site, we have a plethora of information along with some very knowledeable members. Please, stay awhile. Enjoy your stay!

Dude.You repeat yourself twice.

This isn't english class, but communication is key to solving any problem.

Please make it easier to read.

What do you mean by clicking? You don't explain the clicking very well.

Since the starting stopped after you put in the used one. Then it started again.

Maybe the used starter is also messed up.

But now I have a brand new starter and battery in my car and the new starter started making the clicking sound right away after I put it on.

You sure it's the starter?Maybe it's all the relays clicking and stuff. Not sure man, you need to have someone start the car and pop the hood and listen carefully and start troubleshooting.

Weird noises are a pain in the butt.

Good luck.

Rule #1 with wrenching on cars: NEVER throw parts at it. You'll damage the paint.

You installed it backwards.

Also, Have you checked your starter fluid levels? That can cause most of the problems you are experiencing.

could be your neutral safety switch mine does the same thing sometimes. wire up a push button and when it doesn't start use it as a back up.

mine also does the same thing. your right it could be the neutral safety switch i take mine out of park and wiggle it around in neutral and it starts sometimes when its really givving me a problem

its funny because the way this dude describes his problem makes me laugh so hard because Ive tried to show ppl the fcking problem and it just fcking starts up and then i feel like a retard.

the other thing it could be i think... is the ignition you know where the key goes in, that could be actin up....

oh just thought about it hey dude when you replaced your starter did you replace the solenoid as well? its not part of the starter but it sits right on top of it and those will go bad and cause issues like were havin. also check the wires going from the battery to the starter and from the starter anywhere else they can corrode sometimes.

I 2nd that. If the selenoid is a seperate entity from the starte it self, then that could be your problem for sure. I'd check everything the fellow above says, it seems logical that ut would be one of the above problems.
