I have a '91 240 with about 150k miles that I use as my daily driver. As I was driving home from work last week in some really heavy rain, I suddenly felt a loss of power. Then, after a couple of miles, everything went back to normal for a couple of miles, then I lost some power again.

So the next morning, I start it up and i start pulling spark plug wires to see which cylinder was missing. When I pulled the #2 spark plug wire, nothing changed, so I know its the #2 cylinder. When I plugged the wire back in, the cylinder started firing again for a minute, then started missing again. I pulled the wire and put it back again and this time it started firing for a couple of seconds before beginning to miss again and from then on, pulling the wire had no effect.

So I ordered new spark plugs, distributor cap, and distributor rotor since they were all real cheap and installed those. The number 2 cylinder's plug was really badly fouled. After replacing the plugs, cap, and rotor, there was no change. The cylinder is still not firing.

Where should I go from here? Is there any way to test the wires since they are probably original to see if thats the problem? Or test the fuel injector, Or is there anything else I can or should test before I just start ordereing parts and slapping them on hoping for the best?

Thanks.

Do a compression test first...

+ 1 to injector. Also check fuel filter and fuel pressure. Low pressure can cause this, as well as clogged injectors.
