I've had this problem start happening just recently,
I bought this car about a month ago, about a week ago it started happening.
The old owners didn't drive the car much, maybe like a few times a month they told me, it's my daily.

What happens is on a cold start, or even after a few hours(4-5 hours) of sitting. When I go to turn the car on its cranks over and starts just fine but the idle immediately goes down to the point of turning off(it's only turned off once) but then shoots back up and the idle starts bouncing up and down but eventually smooths out. Sometimes it doesn't bounce as much as in the video, usually just shoots down then goes back up to normal idle. It also squeals when this happens, the squeeling goes away after I warm up the car.

I'm have no idea what this is, I think it might be the alternator, and the squeeling might be coming from the pulley. But any input would help :)

Please update your profile with your year and model (NA) for future posts. Welcome to Z32 ownership! There's a ton of resources out there for you. http://z32.wikispaces.com is going to be your friend, http://www.twinturbo.net/nissan/300zx/FAQ/z32faq.aspx will be useful , http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/300zx/ to get your FSM (more on this in a minute) , and we even have our own guide here it sounds like you need to check out everything-you-need-to-know-about-the-z32-t508377.html .

I'd start by pulling your ECU codes. Checking your TPS voltage. Adjusting your idle air control. Checking your MAF connector. If none of that works out, there is an entire section in the FSM for idle problems after cold starts that should give you some more direction.

Btw, you can fix your squealing fairly easily by tightening the accessory belts. Doubt its the alternator if that's your only clue right now.
