How hard is it to change the water pump on a 91 maxima?

Someone said you MUST replace the timing chain.

Is this true?

If it's the same as the z engine (I think it is) then you have to remove the belt to get to the pump.

It is a tough area to work on..by the passenger fenderwell. The car is worked on from below after removing the passenger wheel and fender inner guard (plastic piece)

There are no timing chains on 91 maxima. 92-94SE with the DOHC engine has the timing chain. 89-91 GXE, SE' both had the timing belt with the sohc engine.

Waterpump is in the same area and shoud be replaced period. You will not enjoy this job..bewarned..
