i have been trying to get my power door locks to work and i determined that both the switch and the door lock mechanisms are in good working order...it seems i am not getting power to the switch...all my fuses seem to be fine as well...is there a relay for the power door locks? all my windows go up and down and the mirrors work just the locks wont work...

any advice what i can check on to fix this problem?

also i cant seem to find the radiator overflow tank it has abs so where it usually is located is the abs unit... anyone know where the dang overflow is>? thanks

How have you determined that they are in good working order? Someone mentioned connnecting the battery directly to the motor. I don't suggest that, it was their idea, but it might work.

I'd buy a Chilton Manual. It would help you trace the wires and find the overflow resevoir.

Generally, the cause for malfunctioning door locks is a bad lock timer unit. The timer (like too many other electronics on early 90s nissans) has poor solder joints. Usually you can fix the locks by removing the timer device and cracking it open. Then you just touch up any bad-looking solder joints and re-install it.The timer unit is under the driver side dash. You'll need to remove the lower dash covering and you'll find the timer unit to the right side of the footwell, stuck partway behind the center console stack. It's the smallish black plastic brick with rounded corners that has two wire harness connectors clipped to the bottom. It sits in front of a larger metal-encased electronic unit. You'll want to unhook the connectors and then use a screwdriver (flathead) stuck in the seam at the bottom to pry the part the connectors plugged into out of the rest of the box. The whole bottom face and internal PCB slide/fall out when you pry on it, and then you're free to fix any bad solder joints. When you're done, just slide the board back in.

There are two different things that could be responsible for the locks not getting power, though. The first is the under-dash circuit breaker. The second is the fusible link that protects the door lock timer. The fusible link is right after the battery and is a length of green wire. I'm not sure exactly where the breaker is under the dash...I've never had to use mine and I've only ever seen it in schematics.

thanks...i checked the black box under the dash...the problem still persists...there are 2 thick brown wires which lead to the door lock motor mechanism...there is no power going through them...i am wondering if there is a power door lock relay or something?

never figured that fixing a power door lock would be so time consuming

as a test i used different switches which work fine in my 89 before testing in my 91 so the switch is fine same for the door lock motor it works fine in the 89 as well...narrowed problem with test light to no power going through the wires...all fuses are fine too...this gremlin is having a great time with me...
