I just bought a 91' Infinity M30. Im only 16 years old and am added under my parents insurance policy as an added driver. With this car i now have to pay my own insurance. Im just curious if this is a high insurance rate car? Also the brakes on the M30 i have are not very responsive. You could press the brake pedal all the way down as hard as you could, and still roll to a stop. I know the brake pads were just replaced, so some air could have gotten in the brake line. Im gonna have the brake lines Purged within a week and hopefully that will help.

Welcome to NICO

Insurance will be painful. Even though the M30 is old, it still has two doors, and you're quite young. Keep the grades up and the speed down! The M30 shouldnt be much more expensive to insure than most older coupes.

Check out Speedbleeders for the brakes. Should make air burping quick and easy.

Got pics of the M?

Lucky little punk!

Always wanted an old M coupe...beautiful cars.You'll find your car is powered by an exceptional engine. Extremely reliable; as long as you treat her well, you'll see over 300k miles easily.

Insurance ALWAYS sucks when you're that young. Stay on your parents' plan and you'll do much better.

Manual swap that thing! 5m/t from a Z32 would do wonders.

I love my sedans for a reason! But I'd give up that allegiance for an M coupe, I think.

I wanna see some pictures of this M30!!!

I've heard so much about them - but I've never seen one. Following this post, I'm going to do some searching, and see if I can find some pictures...

Let me get this straight though: 2 door sports car, with the VG30DE? Sounds like fun!

PS: I don't think insurance will be THAT bad... I'm 20 myself, and STEP 18 The worse part: I've never been in an accident. Guess you could say speeding is my downfall. I pay $150/month though. Thats for my four door J30, but I can't see yours being all that much higher!

Good luck, congrats on purchasing a badass ride! Enjoy it!

Yea id love to get it converted to manual, im in love with my moms 5-speed manual 03' Hyundai tiburon. Ill get some pics up soon. Im going to pick up the car on wednesday so hopefully ill get smoe pics then. Its got some minor body damage, scratche, dents etc. There are no rust spots which is good. It does have the nissan VG30E. The only other problem is the windshield washing fluid container leaks, but that should be an easy fix. Unfortuanetly i cant put any money into modifying the car. Right now the guy is giving me a deal for 4 new tires, balanced, and lifetime rotations for $200. I bought the car for $1200. Its got 133,000 miles on it and there almost al highway miles. My mom checked on our insurance, and its no more then my last car which was a 96' dodge neon (piece of ****ing ****!). And they have theres paid for the year, so i dont need to worry about the insurance till next year. Thanks for all the nice welcomes. I was sure since i was so young i wouldnt be so invited.

So is the motor in the M the VG30DE? Or the VG30E? Is there a difference...?

Enjoy your new ride!

I was wondering myself what the trans would be...Off to do some research I guess.

Actually it is not. The M is/was very unique considering it's contemporaries among the North American lineups of both Infiniti and Nissan.The I is the Infiniti counterpart to the Maxima. The J essentially was in it's time as well. The M coupe has nothing more than powerplant in common with the Maxima; it's smaller, 2 door, rwd, auto only.

Dual (DE) or single (E) overhead cams. I could be wrong!

Yes Jesda is right.

VG= engine family

30= displacement (x100 ccs rounded up to the nearest 100--i.e. 1998ccs becomes 2000. then 20 in the designation.)

DE= DOHC/ E= SOHC/ I=OLD connotation for SOHC with fuel injection (the I stands for fuel injection--the E's stand for Electronic fuel injection if I'm not mistaken). The VG30E was formerly referred to as the VG30I VE= DOHC with VVT

TT= twin turbo/ T= turbo/ R= Supercharger or really big turbo.

So VG30E is VG family, SOHC, and 3000 cc or 3 liter.

A VG33R is a 3.3 liter VG family SOHC with supercharger.SR20VE is a 2.0 liter SR family four cyl with VVT DOHC

And so on.

Well i actually got the car today. Its got some serious pick up. Theres a couple things it needs though. The rear struts are blown, its getting new tires on friday, it needs a muffler, and theres some fan (regulator fan??) not sure what its called, but it needs that for the AC and Heat. Because as of right now the heat and AC will only work if its on high. And also the drivers side door panel is coming off at the bottom so the door gets stuck shut because the panel is getting caught. But we epoxy'd it on there for now. Like i said its got serious kick, and i cant wait to see how it does on the highway.

Regarding your climate control blower, you have a bad darlington resistor (known also as fan speed sensor?). Should be a pretty cheap part, shaped like a silver little box with metal prongs. I dont know where its located on the M30. I know in the Q its located behind the glove box.
