91 KADE gets hiccups on stepping more gas. Seems rich. Floods gas. Sparkplug?

My KA24DE just got the vaccume hoses plugged and the engine runs ok even when going up on RPM range (4K rpm)But when I step on the gas to shift up the engine gets hiccups and bogs down until I let go of the gas a bit. The car will accelerate but I can't step up the gas to do it. I have to let it accelerate gradually while holding back the gas.Sometimes the engine doesn't start due to gas flood. Once I had to remove the spark plugs and let the puddle of gasoline evaporate.

Is it caused by my spark-plugs? I have DENSO $1.49 plugs from advance. Would a Platinum Bosch or Iridium NGK make a difference in STOCK KA24DE?Or is it my spark plug wires? They do WORK, but I don't know any difference between differently priced wires other than color. Can it be my ignition coil? Distributor was adjusted by an experience technician so I have confidence in timing and distributor.

My engine is 191K old and has no internal oil/coolant leaks. The only leaks in my car right now is valve cover gasket. If it is caused by the plug, can I shorten the gap and make it better?

Thanks

the MAF seems fine. It can take high RPM so long as I don't jump on the gas while actually being in gear.

Anyway I also cleaned out the MAF by spraying a little bit of brake cleaner. (Electric cleaner was out)I had the $1.50 DENSO spark plug gap widened from 35 to 40 yesterday evening and it made things worse. So this evening I had all the plugs gap down to 30.And it FIXED the acceleration hiccups! Also gone are the engine floods that won't let me start the car at times after turning off the engine. Now I can jump on the gas and accelerate all the way to 4k rpm and no hiccups! I almost got a ticket while rushing up the highway. There was a cop car about 1/4 mile behind me >.<

I think it will get better later when I get $9.98 Iridium plugs from Bosch.

The fuel flooding in the engine came back again. The engine runs great once it gets started, but it won't start time to time because there's too much fuel pumping, or so it seems to me.The DENSO spark plugs have Black soot on them. I just changed them with BOSCH Platinum4+ and got them started but I think they might get soot later if the fuel is running to rich.I've had the vaccume hoses plugged, the Air filter replaced, the spark-plugs changed, the plug-wires lubed, O2 sensor replaced, Timing set to perfect by a pro. What could be wrong to make the engine run rich?Is there a way to manually adjust Air/Fuel ratio?

Is it possible that my injectors are leaking gas into the cylinder? Are they easy to take out and check? Thanks

Like I said.... get a multi meter and check your MAF. Just because it works doesn't mean it's working properly.

I had the same problem about 2 years ago.... you put it in gear and start to take off and it runs fine but if you dip into the throttle too much too soon its starts to buck and bog down but as soon as you let off and get back on the throttle smooth it will go all the way to redline.

You should be able to put it in first and mash the pedal to the floor with no hesitation.

hesitation seems to be gone completely, but it's having issues starting. But I'll try the MAF. How do I check it out?

I don't have the FSM for your particular year so you are going to have to get the FSM from NICO and then look at the procedures for testing the MAF.

Sorry but this going to require some effort and searching on your part.... but look on the bright side, when you do finally figure out what the problem is your going to feel so good inside knowing that you solved the problem..... then you are going to feel stupid like the rest of us because it is always something small and idiotic with these cars.

I'll try to dig up my old MAF, I got this one from a broken down 240. I don't see a pin when I looked inside it. I though MAF is supposed to have a pin sticking out to measure air-flow.

I still can't find my old MAF. I wanted to see if it had a pin sticking out inside the barrel.

Since the engine has no hiccups or what soever and just black soot collecting on spark-plugs and eventual flood (I don't think it's injectors, can't be all 4 leaking into the cylinder), I'm trying to think of a way to bypass MAF and push some air directly into the throttle body after the filter. My MAF adapter was designed with an extra outlet before MAF that was used for EGR (I think) I'll try to hook it to a vaccume inlet near the throttle body and see how it goes.
