I'm not too familiar with transmissions so here goes my question..

From 1st to 2nd gear my transmission grinds very lightly under "semi" hard shifting. I haven't even tried to shift hard yet, but if i'm "granny" shifting it won't grind at all. It only happens from 1st to 2nd ONLY. I thought it'd be low on fluid and it happened to be low so i flushed out all the old fluid and refilled it to OEM specs, but still having the problem. I just picked up the car this past monday and this all started doing this on wednsday, during that time i logged about 100miles. I know i'm clutching properly but it still does it.

Now like i said i'm not too familiar with transmissions thats why i'm asking, but the only other thing i can think of thats causing this problem is that my syncro's are messed up? If it is should i send the transmission out to get rebuilt or should i just go out and buy another one?

I do plan on swapping ka to an sr sometime in the summer (thats how long it'll take for me to save up for the sr) so i'd like to go the cheapest route out of this problem.

So in the meantime i'll be taking it easy because i'd rather not do anymore damage than there already is.

Any help is much appreciated.

thanks,duey

drive the piss out of it if, it seems to go into gear ok but makes a little noise I wouldnt worry to much about it if your planning on swappin it out in 6 months. doubtful it will get much worse in that time. my trans grinds every now and then and has since I got the car 2 yrs ago. but when I use my clutch when shifting gears ,rather then rpm matching, it only does it going into third once and awhile.

Ok today i actually got some decent driving time and for some reason it doesn't grind all the time. So i'm now thinking it's not the syncro's and that it's possibly something with the clutch perhaps..., once in awhile the car makes a strange rattling sound with the clutch off (throw out bearing maybe?), and it goes away when i step on the clutch. Later today i'll be triple checking all my fluids and check for any leaks on the clutch lines..... am i going in the right direction as far as diagnostics?

yes your going the right way. that rattle noise could end up being your trow out bearing coming apart. If your clutch is worn out you wouldnt get a solid shift. if your free play in the pedal is ok and the hydrolic checks turn up ok I would say you need to get that trans out and get a look at that clutch and T/O bearing.
