Purchased a 91 s13 with a stock ka. Got it running in limp smooth after new spark plugs and removing the S14 maf and one random blue injector it had. Got a souple S13 mafs one was remain and guaranteed, when wired in tonight it runs the same with the maf plugged, like a V8 lope, hesitates, sputters, back fires sometimes. In limp it sounds good all 4 firing. There was an aftermarket gound kit installed horribly so i removed that and re grounded in some spots, but it ran afterwards no diff than before. I am lost and have no clue where to start with this issue, its stranded at a church parking lot and wont start after driving it to move it and it running all crappy and then dying.....any help would be great guys, thanks!!!! :ohno:

Sounds like a headache.
Double and triple check your wiring.

Did the injector go in smooth? Or did you have to force it in? If you put enough vaseline in it, it should pop-in easily without hurting the o-rings.
If you had to force it in, I'd take that new injector out and make sure the o-ring wasn't crimped. If it's bad, replace the o-ring and put on a lot of vaseline before popping it in.

Thanks for the reply! I have the same 350z wheels on mine ;) It went in good I used the lube etc on the old one so it went in good. I plan on removing all 4 checking and Vaseline sliding them all back. Checking wiring with a buddy who is good at vehicle electronics, I think I may have a ground issue but not sure. It's a BIOYCH to start and just runs like a retarded llama. Any other experiences and fixes for this kind of problem would be gret guys!!! Also anyone know how to multimeter test te maf?

My money is on a leaky fuel injector. Check the ecu for codes about the MAFS.

My thing with that....if it was an injector wouldn't it sound like a** and not normal in limp mode too?

I know that key on engine off the MAF signal wire should show 2.5 volts, but, I forget which wire it is (probably the middle on if a 3 wire MAF)
You also might want to check TPS signal voltage KOEO .5v, also should be the middle wire if i remember right.

Try a leak down test, if all else fails take it to the shop

Negative ghost rider the pattern is full.......shop?! I AM THE SHOP! hahahha i joke :rotflmao

Ok so.....igniton coil wires came off.....( they are modded factory clip is gone ) once that was fixed, it fired up! Still runs better in limp.....got good volts to MAF while running. I am going to confirm continuity from the ecu to the plug this weekend, but i am thinking now its the ECU or the wire being s*** somewhere in the harness. No smoke while running, just running rich. Still going to double check injectors but im sure there not leaking by. Any previous problems and or issues similar to this let me know what you found! i am pretty confident its the MAF and something to do with it....main reason is the big difference when u unplug it. Thats all for the update thanks again guys, pics and more info to come once more troubleshooting goes down. :mike

UPDATE. Did a compression check it was actually really good for being cold. Plugged my buddys ecu and it ran the same, threw some codes that cleared after a reset and then re plugged mine in and maf code. He has a known working maf i will try asap, i have purchased 2 off ebay one is guaranteed so....checked wiring to and from maf plug its good. something is still draining the battery but i think its related to this problem....

thanks for the help guys
