I am working to correct all the functional issues in my q before I reinstall the entire interior and dash. I have 2 questions on the door locks.

On the drivers side the key lock will allow me to lock the doors with the key standing on the outside of the car. I am not able to unlock the doors with the key however. I notice that the cylinder has no detent turning to the unlock side. When I turn it to the lock side I can feel that slight resistance just before it clicks and locks the doors. I have read everything I can find on nico but I dont see anything speaking to my issue exactly. I am interested in the removal of the key cylinder and replacement of the light which lights up the ring in the door handle.

On the passenger side, sometimes when I unlock the doors from the handle on the inside of the door, the lock will bounce back once. Something seems to be a bit out of adjustment, but this does not happen every time.

thanks

Warning!

The lock rod interconnecting plastic pieces degrade with age, as does everything plastic or rubber.

I have totally replaced with brand new everything [metal control rods and lock assembly] inside drivers door including key set [entire lock assembly].

Of course you can wait until you cannot open door and have to rip and cut body to get it open one day.

There's also an electronic door lock actuator in each door that can wear out. I have a weak one in my right rear door that sometimes doesn't lock properly. Either way you're going to have to remove the door panel to inspect the locking components and decide what needs fixing.

That is so true. I have both of the door panels taken off so that is no issue. I have done a comparison between the doors and I dont see any missing parts, nothing broken off and I dont see that any of the locking rods are off or not doing their thing. I am wondering if you guys can link me to a post on the removal and installation of the door lock cylinders from the inside of the door. I would like to remove them, give them the once over and then reinstall, sometimes that alone will do the trick. any photos are always appreciated.

Any suggestions on the lock "flapping" effect??

Any luck with this? Since you posted way back in Jan 2010, I was hoping maybe you figured it out, as I am having the same problem, basically. I am replacing my original door due to low-speed impact damage with a very nice junkyard door; but of course need to swap out the lock cylinder or the entire door handle mechanism (whichever is easiest) in order to still be able to use my key, etc.

Inner panel is off, removal of all actuator rods is accomplished, but the lock cylinder/electronic switch assembly itself seems to be too large to allow removal of the door handle through the hole in the sheet metal. No apparent way to remove...

FSM is useless, only one other thread on-topic and there is no answer really, there (user Erickz posted)
