I'm new to the 240 scene and need some help. I have a 90 SOHC 240 SX auto that is in need of a new transmission and I found a 91 240 DOHC that was wrecked that I soon will be parting out. The engine and trans are very clean and run well. I am considering swapping the engine and trans but at the very least I do need to swap the transmission. I have read in another post that all that would be required would be to change the bellhousing from the 90 model auto trans to the 91 model auto trans. Does this sound right. I haven't looked yet (I just picked up both cars this weekend) but is it even possible to change bellhousings on the auto transmissions (I know its possible on most manual trans). I would prefer to just change out transmissions if possible but if that is not really an option I will consider just swapping the entire engine transmission combo if its not to difficult or expensive to make the electronics work properly. The 91 car has the heads up display option if that makes a difference. I really appreciate any help with my questions

I'd swap both the transmission and motor. Just rip out the top wiring harness and throw it into the 90, pretty much everything will bolt right up and the benefits would be so much better and much easier then just swapping the transmission IMO. Whichever way you take though, good luck!

Thanks for the response. Any other recommendations from anyone who has done this sort of swap.

So did you swap the whole thing or just the transmission? I have a 89 SOHC and need to know if I can put a DOHC transmission in there.

Thanks!
