I'm getting some '91 cams from a friend to put in my car. I have searched this and found no real answer, what is the power gain i can expect? Is the installation hard, i mean it seems pretty straight foward, but i have never swapped cams before.

Is the cams two exhaust cams or just stock 91 cams? If they are stock 91 cams you can expect around 7 WHP. Two exhaust cams will net you around 10 WHP with a header.

The installation isn't hard, just time consuming. You better have an FSM or something close that gives you a really good idea of what's going on. Also, make sure you have a source(i.e. - nissan dealership) that can get you the shims you may and most likely will need. You'll find everthing you will need in an FSM. Hope that helps some.

125 foot pounds!!?? Are you sure it's not in/lbs?? I work on aircraft, and a 125ft/lbs nut's and bolts require a torque wrench 4 feet long just to get the proper leverage. I deal w/ that specific torque value every few days on average. I'm not saying your wrong or anything, but just check yourself. If your right, your right. If not, you may have just very well told someone to go **** their engine up.

that's cool. I was just wondering, cause that's a pretty good torque value for such a relatively small nut/bolt. Good to know stuff, hope all this jabbering helped this guy out some.

Yeah, thanks, it's just the stock 91 cams, we'll have a FSM so it shouldn't be too hard.

the nut is actaully one of the thickest that i know of on the car. its right there with the strut bolts on the spindle which also get torque to 120ftlbs i belive

I have a 95 that i'm thinking about putting 91 cams into. I have a few questions, is there much of a low-end loss? Is it worth the $$$ to do it? About how much power did you realize?

Thanks,

David.

On that note. Since I don't have tools/space to work on my car, how much would an average mechanic charge to swap the cams ?

Does it make sense to combine it with installing new timing chain kit ?

I'm being charged 100. I dunno about the chain. I think a lot more has to be done before you can do the chain too.

I'm considering this upgrade and was wondering if anyone had streetability/smog problems with this setup. Nissan Motorsports cams prefferably.

Other mods: I/H/E/Pulley

Thanks

I have the 91 cams and it doesn't affect anything...

I don't think doing this upgrade will net you 7rwhp, or at least it didn't feel like that in my car. It just shifted the power band to the right a little.

Do you think it's worth getting them though?

The stock exhaust my car is really choking the engine, so I can't really pass judgement on the 91 cams. I'm just letting you guys know that it didn't do much on MY car with the stock exhaust.

But for $40 and a few hours of work, why not? I'm sure the gains are more noticeable once the restrictive exhaust is gone.

I have an apex dual N1, would that be free flow enough? High flow cat too maybe?
