I just bought a '91 coupe 240sx and it has new timing set, which I've checked to the best of my knowledge to be installed correctly rotor pointing to cyl 1 at TDC and cams are eight links apart. Anyway, the car does have a shot motor mount so the motor moves a lot, but the main problem is that when I floor it or just barely hit the throttle, the car barely takes off with low power. I've checked to see that the throttle body butterfly valve is opening all the way and the timing is on I'm pretty sure. WHAT COULD BE THE PROBLEM? THANKS for any help yall can provide. -Zach

It is not manny dog, it is equipped with auto transmission and revs up out of gear and accelerates slowly until at high rpm. low on power.

Did you use a timing light to set the timing? It sounds like you just eyeballed it.

That is almost sig worthy right there. You NEED a timing light to set the distributor timing, no way you are going to tell anyone other wise.

you do need a timing light, check your FSM there is a procedure to time it, he could have a real point there (he is also a moderator so i would guess he has spent some time around a 240sx). also check your transmission fluid as well as check your ecu for trouble codes. hit us up when your done.

the little shaft thingy that sits in the oil pump(atleast on single cams) on your distributor could be 180 degrees off mine was just dropped oil pump and positioned the crank thingy into the distributor with it already positioned on the first cyl position.also if your getting weak power make sure all your cylinders are firing i know my 3rd and 4th weren't and of course that caused major power loss

kinda. there is a whole procedure to time your car and its just too much to type out here, but its not hard to do. first you need a FSM (factory service manual) you can find them on this site and others, just search. once you have your FSM you need to read the section on -EF/EC- Engine Fuel and Emissions Control Systems. particularly the -Idle Speed/Ignition Timing/Idle Mixture Ratio Inspection- section. here you will find all kinds of cool stuff like how to adjust base idle speed and ignition timing. if you have any other questions AFTER you get your FSM lemme know.
