OK my shifter bushing is broke on my 91 300zx. I am wondering if I can just put the shifter it it sopt where it sits, and weld the shifter bracket in place. I know it will cause vibebration and the shifter to move up and down a bit. But would it hurt anything? I've seen solid brackets for sale whould this be any different?

So, you're willing to permanently mess up a critical system on your car to avoid buying a <$20 part? If I'm understanding you correctly, then that's incredibly asinine.

20 dollar part? Where do you get parts? That's a dealer only part. Only dealer is over a hour from me, I found them on line for no less then 40 bucks. I asked if it was going to hurt the car did I not? If you can tell me what it will hurt let me know. Like I said I have seen some that ate sold that a solid and do not use the bushing anymore. So by welding the stock one making it solid would it not be the same as the after market one?

This is what I am assuming:

I think this piece broke at the rubber part

and he wants to weld this "A" shaped bracket into a sold piece so he can eliminate the above support

Anyways, Ive welded the the stock bracket, but you need to "beef" it up. The stock stamped steel is pretty weak and will more than likely bend on you as it was made to have two support points(at the transmission and the rubber mount as shown in the first link.

The other option is to weld a "u" shaped flat bar to replace the rubber piece that broke on the plate.

Yeah that is what I was thinking he means^... In either case just fix it the correct way because it will save you time and money in the long run.

Neither of those are bushings. http://www.z1motorsports.com/advanced_s ... er+bushing , but maybe that's what he meant. It's not very clear.

Even if its something else, he still has plenty of other options: http://www.z1motorsports.com/advanced_s ... ds=shifter

So no, I would still not hack up your car to save what still appears to at most be $40. If you don't want to drop $40 on something this important, then Z32 isn't a good match for you.

This is what I meant on the plate repair:

Yes the a shaped one. And I fixed it. Not that I didn't want to drop 40 dollars on the car. Sometimes you can make your own parts better then the OE parts. I took the stock bracket that's bolted to the floor cut two slits in it slipped a pics of steel through it weled it and put a rubber block under it and bolts up the shifter. Good as new. But better. Fells nice a stiff an shifts clean.
