91 240sx wont stay running

this is a 91 240sx manual about 150k on it, it sat for a long while maybe 8-10 months in oklahoma. only code it is throwing is knock sensor.

it will start up if you give it half throttle steady, it idles between 500-800rpm, (no matter how much you mash the gas ) and if you pull your foot off the gas it dies. the ignition timing, the pin sits about an 1" to the left of the timing marks on the pulley.it appears to be getting fuel as it is drenching the plugs.

i changed the fuel pressure regulator, tps sensor, plugs, wires, coil, ecu, and still nothin. all were known to be good. will be checking the distributer to tdc tomorrow to see where it is.

you can hear it trying to suck in air cause it makes a different noide when you give it full throttle.

i am out of ideas, any help would be appreciated.

Did you check the old plugs to see if the engine is running rich?

well we had a hard time starting the car up at first, it wouldn't start with the fuse to the fuel pump in. and you had to spray some starting fluid into the pvc port on the intake. and when we pulled the plugs they were reaking of raw fuel and very wet, which i put new ones in after that. i will pull them again today and see what the new ones look like.

your car can't stay running when it's cold or after warms up?If your car is running rich, I would first look at the ecu to see if there is any trouble code. Check the engine temperature sensor, to see if it's within spec. and check all the ground wires.

I bet you ANY amount of money it is the MAF.

The SAME EXACT thing happened to my friend's car. His car sat for 4 months.

You might need to clean the MAF, or replace it. He replaced his and it worked fine.

I took my MAF off of my car and installed it on his. It fired up and ran well. He went to a junkyard and bought a used one.

try unplugging the maf. get it to warm up and try to clear it out. try to set the timing a little better. you may have a jumped chain.

im on 12 hr shifts at work now, so i will have to look at it this weekend.but i have another mass air that i can try, and 1 more ecu i can try, so i will get back with you this weekend. i will probably start from scratch and check all timing marks( chain ) make sure they are where they are supposed to be ,same with distributer,change maf,so on and so forth.
