Post

I recently purchased a 91 240sx with what i was told a 95 engine, i quickly noticed the it accelerates extremely slow, but everything else seems to be fine like idle and cluth is grabbing and its getting fuel. i've done tons and tons of reserch and i think i somewhat think it may be the distributor dizzy everyone in my research says something about a TDC. If its not set right when you put your distributor dizzy in it wont run right. I'm extremely confused and lost. if any of this makes sense to anyone and has dealt with this, and knows how to fix it. it would be extremely appreciated. Thanks Rey

Could be any of the following:- dirty fuel filter- dirty air filter- ignition timing incorrect- cam timing incorrect- major vacuum leak

Since you mentioned checking the ignition timing, here's a procedure for checking the ignition timing:

Fully warm up the engine. Shut engine off. Disconnect the TPS harness connector; it's located on the passenger's side of the engine just above the throttle assembly. Attach timing light to #1 plug wire. Start engine; the OEM timing should be 20 degrees BTDC. There are two bolts that attach the distributor to the block; one's on top and the other one is on the side. Loosen both bolts and turn the distributor slowly while watching the timing marks on the pulley with the timing light. Stop the engine. Reconnect the TPS harness connector. Start engine. That's all there's to it.

To install the distributor:

First you need to find Top Dead Center (TDC) for the COMPRESSION STROKE in order to time the ignition distributor. To find TDC, remove #1 spark plug and disconnect the ignition coil wire. Have someone tap the ignition switch start position to slowly crank the motor while you put you hand or thumb over the spark plug hole. When you feel the compression, stop. Now look down at the timing pointer at the front pulley. It should be pointing to ZERO. If not, manually turn the motor clockwise or counter-clockwise by hand until it's pointing to ZERO. Now determine the #1 plug wire location on the distributor cap. Mark that location on the distributor body. Now insert the distributor into the block, meshing the gears so that the rotor ends up pointing to the mark you put on the side of the distributor body. You now are timed close to correct; you should be able to start the motor.

The KA motor firing order is: 1-3-4-2. This is at the distributor cap in a counter clockwise direction.

Here's a picture of the timing marks:

I came across this post looking for how to install the dizzy on my 95. In the post you say that " you are now close to timed" and that stock timing is 20deg btdc. So to set it at stock timing just align the timing pin to the 20 before mark before stabbing the dizzy?
