Hello everyone. New to the Nico forum. I recently purchased 91 240sx and the speedometer is floating. It's also on the opposite side of where it should be (110mph instead of 0mph). When I stick the key into ignition it bounces from 110 up to 90 and the car isn't even started. It does it when it's started too. When I get up to high speed, it will start reading current speed for a slight moment and then goes back to 110mph. Everything else on the cluster works aside from the speedometer. I've done research, but I can't find any other people who are having the same exact issue. Anyone have any ideas what the problem could be? I know it can be the cluster, the sensor, or the cable.

Hey, that's the speed sensor with the pigtail I believe. Could be bad connection or wires. Get under your car and check to see if the wires were ever spliced back on. Perhaps they were reversed when splicing. Otherwise, get your FSM and start checking the wires. If those are good, then use the FSM to diagnose the speed sensor, then the cluster... because that is the most expensive and you don't want it to be that.

I had a similar issue. I replaced the speed sensor (actually... the whole damn trans with the sensor in there), which didn't fix it, so I replaced the cluster.
