Hey guys I just recently purchased a 91 240sx. after about a week of driving it began to randomly shutoff completely, no notice it would just seem like your turning the car off. It wont start back up until you leave it for 30+ minutes. I checked spark and gas and my maf is brand new. It previously had a alarm that was removed and the wiring seems to be nice and clean the only thing I have noticed is the electrical plug going to the distributor is slightly exposed as if something hit the wires and scraped off part of the insulation exposing the ground wire and another wire, I purchased another connector and will be rewiring it to clean that up. I have cleaned most of the grounds and replaced my fuel pump relay and filter and checked and seem to get spark when cranking it back over after it shuts off. If anyone has any past experience with this issue or knows of a common fix please let me know Cheers!

Is it only shutting off at idle? Or while driving/on the gas? When it's not shutting off, does it run/drive well?
Does it only shutoff once it's fully warmed up? Details.

OK yes it is a genuine nissan MAF the car had been dealer serviced since 93 up until i bought it a couple weeks ago. It started happening when I was driving but I left it idling in the driveway and it had shutoff when I came back. It runs perfectly fine and idles around 700-800 once warmed up. It usually dies about 10-15 minutes after starting it up and can take a couple hours before it will start again once it dies. I ordered a used dizzy on ebay as I was getting code 11 periodically after the car dying, but I checked fuel tank for rust, replaced filter and relay and checked plugs, wires etc all clean and am getting the fuel pump on when dying and a spark.

It could be one of those times it actually IS the ecu.... I suggest against running out and buying one (having done that) unless you can get a great deal - but it could have a thermal issue that causes a component to fail once it's warm.

You might be able to borrow one to see, or see if the injectors are clicking when you turn it over while it's stuck off - if they're not, I expect it's the ecu. (maybe CAS could do that, but they don't really seem to go bad, either)
