hey all im having a problem witht eh relay label EGI, when i turn the key to turn on the car the car wont start, it only clicks. I have checked the batt and its fully charged, the starter its working fine. The problems happens right after i take the key from ACC, all the cluster lights stay on ie: ( abs, check engine, batt, seat belts, ETC ) and then the EGI relay it starts buzzing and it vibrates. the only way for me to make it stopped its to take off the negative batt off.Could anyone help me out, i dont know whats going on in here, i already tryed to changing the relays with 3 others, and the samething happens.

thanks for any help or advise.

Have the battery tested anyway. Make sure all the connections are clean on both ends of both batteries. A buzzing relay always means there is a lack of constant/enough power to the relay. If your connections and battery are definitly ok after conducting tests then you need to find where the loose connection is in the wiring.

That relay is turned on by the ECM to power injectors and other sections of the ECM. 2 of the leads to the relay are power from the fuse box and the other 2 are grounds through components. DO NOT use a test light to check the terminals in the relay connector, you could fry the ecm if you do. You MUST do all tests with a volt meter. You wont really be able to see the grounds as they will have resistance to ground.

could the relay be making that noise, because i change the fuel pump from a JDM 180sx? do they require higher votage then the usdm 240sx? it did it after i swaped that pump??But would that cause the lights inside of the cluster to stay on after i took the key off??

Thanks for the help..

Do this disconnect your battery , then disconnect both the plug connector and the main wire going to your alternator. Insulate the main wire so it wont short to ground. Reconnect your battery and see if your systems still exist.

On your initial post I didnt catch where the warning lights in your dash were staying on when you pulled the key out. I have seen a bad altenator cuase this.

BTW this only for a breif test, dont drive the car that way. We are only trying to determine if the altenator is internally shorted causeing a back feed in the system.

The question is though, with the altenator disconnected ,do your dash lights go out now when turning the key off?

well the car died, and i didnt see the lights on or the buzzing sound. This maybe weird, but the alt also said nissan in it, it looks really old. can this still be the original alt? would they last that long.. Im gonna take the alt and have it test tomorrow.

If a nissan alt were to be kept free of oil and coolant internally it would likely out last the engine in the car. The problme with them is at some point in time fluid gets in them and drastically shortens their life span.
