My driver side power window motor runs & is solid in the "down"direction, but when you switch it to "up" there is so little tension in the gear that you can stop it with a finger. The regulator cable is intact and the assembly moves smoothly, though there is a little slack in it.

Is there any way to tighten up or sevice the "clutch" in this thing, or will I have to bite the bullet and get another motor?

Most likely a worn gear in the motor. and would be best to exchange it out for a new one.

does it sound like its spingin faster than the window is moving ?

The window doesn't move at all in the goin' up direction and the motor just spins. Going down is OK. I took out the regulator with the motor on it and powered it. It moves OK without the window on it, but all you have to do is put your finger on the gear at the end of the motor and it stops moving, but the motor keeps on. Acts like a burned out clutch.

Do the aftermarket window motors hold up? ($143 vs. $350 from Nissan).

i would buy aftermarket before nissan due to price. but i would also think about junkyard nissan units for even cheaper. i would say replace it sounds like the gears are trash.

A quick call-around to the local junkyards didn't turn one up & I needed to get it out of my garage and back to the daughter who drives it, so I got the O'Reilly special. Slapped it in & the window goes up & down like its supposed to again.

Thanks for the advice.
