Hi, I recently bought a 91 240sx back in February and when I bought it, it was in fairly good condition. Now that I think back on it the person who sold it to me was kind of shiesty and it was my first time buying a car off of craigslist. But lesson learned blah blah blah. For the past few weeks I've been experiencing that I have to rev my car in to high rpms before it starts moving. In the past week I've had to go in to at least 3-4k rpms for my car to actually pull like it used to. Sometimes I smell burning oil but I put some oil in and it still has the same problem. Could it be that I need to change the oil? Or possibly the clutch? I appreciate and help or tips as I have already searched for this issue and I'm sorry I didn't mention it earlier. Thanks.

select this forum from the drop down list and search "power loss" (no quotes). I'm sure one of those will have the answer you so desire. (or at least a potential solution)

title edited since you didn't read about posts that include nothing about the car in question. I understand this is a 240sx tech board but for people that need to search, "whatiswrong" does nothing for anyone.

I will not respond to any threads that have something as uneventful and meaningless as "whatiswrong" "help please!" and so on.

I'm doing a repost because I'm a nub and couldn't explain the post earlier.

Does that have anything to do with my problem?I appreciate and help or tips as I have already searched for this issue and I'm sorry I didn't mention it earlier. Thanks.

Ok so your car isn't pulling like it used to. Did you do a tune up since you bought your car? Other thing that could be causing your oil levels to drop with the smell of burning oil is probably just that, burning oil. So does it seem to be coming from inside the cabin or does it seem to have a stronger odor when you pop the hood and have a whiff?

It's only because I'm revving my rpms so high and it smells when I pop the hood. The stronger smell I am smelling is the burning of my clutch. I think I burnt the clutch but I'm not quite sure. And unfortunately I haven't gotten a tune up :/

If it's coming from the cabin it probably is your clutch. If it's coming from the engine bay it's probably worn valve stem seals. The clutch being pressed in half way? From that half way position do you mean it's not springing back? If that's the case you need to find a return spring. If it's just half way in all the time, you also should consider adjusting the clutch pedal. You'll see a U shaped bracket coming off of the rod from the clutch master cylinder. Rotate that thing around till it extends the length of the rod which will push the pedal closer to you.

My clutch used to be all the way out but now it's pressed in half of the way and not springing out like it used to. I forgot to mention that I did learn how to drive stick with this car so I'm pretty positive I burnt it more than a few times. Thanks for your help and advice! I'll keep what you said in mind.

my dad has an '01 pathfinder and had that same problem- it turned out to be a problem with the computer telling the engine to run too rich/lean (i forget) he got the computer swapped out and now its working fine-hope this helps considering its a different car...lol
