My car overheats after about 10 minutes running. I have replaced the thermostat and the radiator. I don`t know if I should replace the water pump. The pump is not making noise and it is turning. I hate to do that and it be a head gasket. Can anybody tell me how to know if the head gasket is blown? Help!!

did you bleed the cooling system properly with the bleder screw on the intake? it helps to elevate the front of the vehicle when bleeding it. you may just have an air pocket. also it is not uncommon to get a bad t-stat from the parts stores or the dealer, have had that kick my azz a couple times. I know this may sound stupid but you didnt happen to put the t-stat in backwards did you?

No the thermostat is in the right way. Now I don`t know about bleeding the cooling system. I bought a Chilton guide last night and did not see anything on that. Crap I have bleed brakes before but never cooling system. I am used to working on V8`s but decided to try my luck with nissan. Thanks for the info I will try it this week and see. Thanks for the reply doesn`t seem like anybody else wants to help.

Thanks NISTECH you are on the money. I replaced the thermostat (bought at Autozone) with one from Advanced Auto and it fixed my problem. Couldn`t figure out the bleeding the coolant system. I bought the Chilton manual and it says " Slowly pour coolant through the filler neck to release air in the system with the air relief bolt loosen". Ok filler neck is that the radiator neck or the coolant over flow?? How do I know I am doing it right? How long do I need to do it? I am guessing you will get fluid and air coming out the relief bolt.

Thanks for the help I am very impressed with the Nissan group. I couldn`t have done it without your help. Thanks for letting me drive again :)

Yes, slowly fill the radiator with the bleed bolt out. You will eventually get coolant spilling out of that bleeder. Personally, I would still run it with the cap off until the thermostat opens. Of course if you already fixed it, then it doesn't really matter.
