Hello all,

Let me break this down for you and hopefully I can get some positive feedback: I'm aware of the high-beam switch problems that 240's have and I had the same problem about a year ago. The regular beams worked fine, but the passenger side high-beam WOULD NOT activate. The high-beam gauge cluster light didn't come on so I figured that the circuit wasn't being completed. I replaced the switch assembly on the steering column and low and behold, I had working high-beams for a year......until this week...........

Same problem as before, passenger side high-beam stopped working THEN the low beam stopped working!! I checked/replaced the bulb just in case but no go. The gauge cluster high-beam indicator wasn't coming on so I replaced the switch for a second time with a part that I knew to be good..........nothing.

The difference this time: NEITHER HIGH BEAM (L/R) work and the passsenger side low beam is out. I have one headlight. What's the scoop? I checked the two 15A fuses under the hood and they're fine. What should I do next??

Thank you very much in advance!

Strange... I would think switch initially, but if you've already replaced that with a known good part, then... I just browsed through the wiring diagrams... The only thing I can think is either the diode (not sure how that would cause this problem) or an issue caused by the panel itself.

Diode or panel eh? I guess I'll have to spend my Saturday tearing everything apart. I'm hoping beyond hope that it's a plug that came undone or a relay that I overlooked or something like that, because if it's a jiggly cable problem buried in three miles of electrical lines...........I'll just be driving with one headlight and no high beams!!!! Do you have acces to a test light and a wiring diag? You have to check if you have power going to the switch and power coming out. So you could isolate were the problem is maybe broken wire or bad connection etc. Good luck and hope you find your problem with your lights.

Hello,

I figured out the problem. It was not the switch in the steering column afterall, but the male plug that fits into it!! Apparently a few of the lines running into the back of the plug had worked their way out (somehow??). I cut the lines, spliced on a new plug and BAM!! Low beams, high beams AND the lights flipped up and down with a turn of the switch (something that had not happened in ages, I always resorted to the button on the dash).

I hate electrical problems!!
