I have a 91 240SX with KA24DE and auto transmission with OD. I purchased the car a couple months ago with 208K miles on her and replaced many needed items, plugs, wires, distrib cap, engine oil & filter, transmission fluid and filter, fuel pump and filter, and the rear and side window urethane seals...list goes on and on. Its my "project car" but sadly it is becoming a freakin money pit. But I would like to keep the car. They are fun little cars. Eventually I would like to get it to a point where I can get it to street worthy conditions, engine overhaul, transmission swap, turbo, etc. But that is not in my plans now.
I have had no problems with the transmission before until now. I was driving to work and hit a bad spot in the road while turning at an intersection. It was like driving over a rumble strip. But as soon as I got through the turn the transmission went out. I pulled over, put it in park. I looked underneath and didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. No fluid leaks, all the u-joints are good, and the transmission fluid is at proper level.
I got my car towed home and put it on jack stands and drained the fluid. It was a light brownish-red color. I did remove the pan and noticed a good amount of build up covering the magnet. I would say an incredible amount since I just replaced the fluid and filter two months ago. I removed the front inspection cover to do a visual of the torque converter...it is tight on the flywheel and tight to the crank. I also checked the linkage and it moves freely even in the valve body.
After replacing with new fluid, filter and gasket, I still have no transmission. From reverse to low 1, I have nothing. I also noticed that there was not even any RPM lag or lowering when I shifted from park to reverse or drive, 2 or 1.
Has anyone encountered this problem? Any solutions would be great.
With 208k on it I am sure that it could use a complete tear down and rebuild which I can do, but right now I cannot do it due to time constraints. By the way, do any of you know of a good place to order a rebuild kit??
Thank you all for your assistance!!
