I just replaved my old fuel filter as well as the "rubber" fuel lines (both supply & return)...well, now I took it for a spin and it runs awesome for like 5-10mins...then it will start to bog gradually to the point of cutting off. I then start to smell gas. Checked for leaks, none...I let the car sit overnight and I started her up fine in the am, same issue ran for 5-10 mins flawlessly then seems like it is flooding out with gas, no leaks...is it possible I have the incorrect fuel filter...it is a cheapo FRAM and I have had problems in the past with FRAM...any help is appreciated, thanks.

I am thinking of putting the old filter back on to see if problem is cleared, will post back if I do...

Here is a pic of the old fuel filter, if you can notice they are a little different, the old one is shorter and wider while the new one (FRAM aka Walmart) is skinner / taller looking...but I looked in Walmart's FRAM book and the FRAM I bought is the one is said, I have had bad luck with FRAM's before though, probably just going to order a new one...not FRAM- LOL

well, I think I may have answered my own question-maybe, I went to "howstuff works.com and saw this:

"The oxygen sensor is positioned in the exhaust pipe and can detect rich and lean mixtures. The mechanism in most sensors involves a chemical reaction that generates a voltage (see the patents below for details). The engine's computer looks at the voltage to determine if the mixture is rich or lean, and adjusts the amount of fuel entering the engine accordingly. When the oxygen sensor fails, the computer can no longer sense the air/fuel ratio, so it ends up guessing. Your car performs poorly and uses more fuel than it needs to."

So, with that I looked at the O2 sensor and the wire was not connected, I haven't reconnected yet-too cold here in Kentucky-no garage, but will post if this works

did u get replacement hoses that are for "fuel injection"??? they cost more $ for a reason; it will hold pressure w/out 'swelling'

from the pic, i can also see that u got regular worm style clamps as well... there are special fuel injection clamps that don't have the openings i see on the clamps...

swing over to a local autoparts store to see what i mean.

other members: please chime in & agree/disagree w/ this observation. thanx

Hmm yes ricebike made a good observation on that one the clamps on the two end hoses look quite diff from the ones that I've noticed on mine and many others.

I've got the push and pull ones (in which I must use pliers or a good amount of force to push open) you may think of replacing those, the filter you've got seems fine but the installation of a fuel filter is pretty straight forward so theres not TOO much you can screw up.

Bottom hose, top hose, connect and you're done. Try returning the filter - purchase the 300ZX filter and slap that baby in for fun.

thanks for the info, I reconnected the O2 sensor this afternoon and let in run for over 20 mins, no problems now...the fuel lines are for FI, I almost did get the wrong ones though...and as far as the clamps go, I will take your advise and get the ones without the holes in the them, I do have the factory ones, just thought I would buy new ones, but now that you mentioned it, I guess the ones I put on there will probably "eat" the lines up eventually, thanks again for the help !!
