1991 240sx KA24DE with auto trans. The only problem is that it wont move in any gear

Everything worked well until I hit a rough spot in the road while turning at an intersection back in November. No knocking, no popping, metal grinding, jerking, chugging...nothing unusal. It just stopped moving. So I pulled over, inspected underneath the car and didnt find any leaks or nothing broke. I tried to start back up and it started just fine. I moved the selector lever from Park to Drive and I got nothing. Tried 1, 2, and even Reverse...the car didnt move an inch. I revved it up and still nothing. After getting it towed home I pulled the transmission pan and replaced the filter and fluid, still nothing. The engine runs great and strong, it revs when I press the pedal and holds idle around 700-750 RPMS.

I have ran EVERY diagnostic test in the Chilton, FSM, online reseach, etc and all electrical systems check out within the specs. All voltage, ohms, etc are all reading as they should per the fsm's and chilton. All sensors are good and none of the wires are frayed, cut or broken. The transmission fluid and filter are both good, hell they were replaced when I first purchased the car in August when it had 209K on it. The cherry juice smells as it should and the magnet was ok. The flywheel is solid, no cracks, or breaks and its straight.

I just pulled the transmission tonight after finally having time to work on it. The transmission looks good and I pulled the torque converter off thinking that it may be the one-way clutch. After inspecting the torque converter, the one-way clutch is good and the sample fluid I pulled from it looks good.

I am at a loss for words and have absolutley no freakin clue what can cause my auto to just quit after traveling over a rough spot in the road.

As much as I would love to drop a 5 speed in, I cannot. I dont have the cash not time for the swap and this is also a car that my wife uses. So please no comments to drop a 5 speed in.

Has ANYONE ever encountered a situation like this? You're help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all and Happy New Year!

Kenny

Check the wiring harness in the passenger side fender well for damage including the section that has the rubber gromet around it going into the fire wall. That section of harness controls the tcu.

Forgot to add that. Yeah the harness is good. Harness is still wrapped with no cuts or breaks.

Yes, they were tight, well smooth operating condition. When I dropped the transmission I removed the linkage from the shifter itself. A lot easier that way.

Tcu getting power? Ground? Do you have fluid pressure/fluid pumping?

The TCU is getting power and has a good ground. The fluid pressure and pumping...that was next task, which is why I dropped the transmission to check the torque converter. It is frustrating as hell!

I will need to pick up a psi kit...you know of a way to do without putting the transmission back in? Ha Ha I'm kidding. And get a cherry picker. Compact I appreciate all the advice! I am gonna call it a night. Thanks man!

That's gotta be the weirdest thing I've ever heard before.. The only thing I could think of is that the rough road must have jumbled something electrical from within the transmission possibly disconnecting it.. That or a hydraulic line inside got severed or damaged? Sorry I don't know much about these A/T units.. Best of luck! :bigthumb:

just wanted to let you know after pulling the engine and transmission, it was the torque converter that sh*t the bed! Ordered a new one from AutoZone and now I am back up and running! Thanks for the help!
