ok I'm about to replace my clutch and rear main seal. Do I need a seal puller for the rear main? I'm told it's just behind the flywheel is it a common place for oil leaks on a ka24de engine? or should I look for another possible oil leak in that area? it drips off the transmission where it connects to the engine. thanks for the help Rob

no thats most likely your leak. of course a leaking valve cover in the back will cause the oil to run off from that point too. to get the seal out, once you have it all apart stick a long narrow screw driver through the lip of the seal and pop it out. be carfull not to scar the crankshaft where the seal rides and also dont scar the surface where the seal is pressed in the housing.

ok thanks, does the new seal "pop" into place then? how can I make sure the seal is seated properly? I won't need any special tools for the procedure? just trying to make sure I've got it right thanks.

when you put the seal in use a plastic hammer or small ballpeen hammer to tap it in working your way around the diameter of it till it is flush with the edge of the mounting plate. do not put one side all the way in and try to hammer the otherside all the way into place you will distort the seal and it will leak even more.
