I have a 1990 Nissan Stanza XEA few months ago it suddenly would not recrank immediately after driving it somewhere.. found a loose vacuum line and fixed.. ran fine for a couple months. Now it tends to want to die after driving it several miles or so.. at times I can keep it going with careful tapping on accelerator... but if it does goes dead, it will not recrank for at least 15 minutes. It is definitely fuel related, as i checked spark, etc. Only seems to do this after driven for several miles and then stopping.. runs fine, no sputter, smoke or loss of horsepower while driving in the meantime... fuel filter has been replaced....Suggestions?????

Are the fuel injectors clicking? It could still be a bad distributor...

Thought about distributor, but the car will remain running on stall if I baby the accelerator.. and usually will run fine after initial stall (or two). It has baffled me and the mechanic I also have looking at it (of course, it wont die on him). Would the fuel pump cause this? I assumed once the pump went bad, it would just die, but I am used to working with Fords rather than Nissan's. If it does die.. it takes about 10 minutes or so before I can get it to run again.. then knocks like crazy for a few seconds and from what I could tell, blows a little black smoke.

Any other suggestions before I pull my hair out with this? =)

It sounds very much to me like a flooding issue. Id guess either a injector is getting stuck open, or your coolant temp sensor is bad causing you to dump fuel

FYI on this... I replaced the fuel pump friday night. It had the old JECS model pump in it and replaced it with a standard oem pump. So far, so good.. car hasnt hesitated on me as of yet and drove it like mad all weekend! *crosses fingers this is the cure*

Now for the fun stuff like replacing the rack/pinion and motor mounts =)Any mechanics want a job to do ?? lol
