Hey guys I have a question. I saw a 90 Q the other day, in great shape might I add, and it had the seat controls on the door that mimick the Mercedes. I do know that there was a slight fuss about removing the controls because Mercedes had some type of patent on it, but If I were to obtain the door switches for the seats, would they work in my Q. I am just looking for something with a little more eas of use. Having to twist my hand or use a knuckle isn't very confortable when moving the seat. Would I have to change out a wiring harness to do it? If the controlls just plug in, I'm game.

Sounds like a great idea! Wish you were closer, you could try my parts out for fitment. Any chance of buddying up to the guy with that Q you saw?

LOL !! 911/Q45. Wanna even better laugh. I used to live in Monterey and Salinas Ca before I moved out to Oklahoma. I don't think I could get any closer than that. AQctually it was a little old woman who owned that car, which is probably why it looked so great. She always garaged it she told me. It was so sad because all I was thinking while she was talking to me and telling me that she has really only driven it to and from the store and to church. In my head I am thinking, "yeah well hon, I would teach this car the true meaning of divinity, while going 140 on the open road." I was so hurt, maybe she'll remember me and leave me something in her will. Don't suppose there are any switches out there willing to be sold. Has anyone heard of this kind of conversion. AZhitman, Sopadope, Manix?

Here's a post from Fred back on 12/18... looks like you could swap them...

Heath

The owner let me scavenge a 90 w/ black interior so we could re-create the dual tone inerior of the 90's (discontinued in 91 to save a little). Also recreate the MB style power seat control that they ahd to discontune for cpyright rasons in 91.They gave a me smashin deal on all that. Also my belt buckle had a chip got anotehr used for for chump change.Policed up a lot of other stuff for the Q.

Was fun, we have a lot of used infiniti parts available I could not have gotten at dealer right away or for much cost.(Even tho my dealer is cool too:coolDid a super thourough TB/plenum cleaning. Will finish up tommorow.

What are the differences between the two switch styles you are talking about. Are later seat controls (92+) not mounted on the doors? What is the Mercedes type switch?

Well Highway Q45 on 1990 and earlier depending on the build date, the switches are on the dors, but they are in the shape of a seat. Much like the ones on a Mercedes Benz. Bottom seat cushion, then fore/aft, and seat cushion hight. It looked just like a replica of the chair, but it was on the door. The later Q's have the flat panel buttons (like we do) for the fore/aft/ seat cushion hight and recline. The older buttons look so much better and as I said before it is much easier to use. If anyone has any pics, would you post em for Highway Q45 so he'll know exactly what I mean. the next time you go to adjust your seat on the door, notice if you are either twisting your hand, using a knuckle, or while in the drivers seat, stretching across with your right hand to make the adjustment.

Hey Palmer. I heard about what happened. i am so sorry to heard about that. I called the hotel but no one answered. ihave family in that are who were traveling south. My car and I hit some ice the other day and now my rear right axle is shot. i have gotten a list from Joe for the parts. My insurance is being sketchy about the whole thing. But little do they know, I am also going to get a new rear diff as well. been needing one for the past year or so. Hope that helps the performance of the car.

Hey Palmer, did you have to splice any wires to get the seat controls to work in the 91? Or was it a direct plug in, couldn't imagine that.

Dayum, don't you hate that. Well I am going to call Joe to see if those controls can still be ordered. I would think so right, I mean there are people with the original flagship from 89 and 90

Let us know what you find on that. Hopefully it's not like some of the other things like the old-style floor mats, where you have to buy them in the new style and just upgrade (downgrade?) both doors to get it to match...
