Previous owner took it to the dealer and when she got the quote she had them unhook it. Hooked up the wire to the motor.

Roof opened with help and would not close. Wiped the black plastic rails off and put some grease along the bottom and insides of the rails. Sunroof will just barely open on it's own. It will almost close if one finger is pushing forward on the driver side of the sun roof. It doesn't close all the way because I am afraid of getting my finger stuck while helping it close.

The sunroof only tilts on the passenger side.

What's Next:

Clean the rails more?Adjust the clutch on the motor?Remove headliner?

How do you disconnect the wires that go to the lighted vanity mirrors?

I'm having the same issue. The roof only tilts up on one side. When that happens, its more serious than just a clutch adjustment. The cables are binding somewhere and the headliner will need to be taken down and the problem sorted out.

Do like me and pretend the sunroof isn't there, or spend time doing the work required.

The usual solution is to replace the sun roof assembly from a KNOWN GOOD junker or with brand new parts. Depends on how long you want the repair to last.

I think with your "one side" issues - you're probably looking at a bad cable assembly. Might be worth checking to see if the assembly is common to all of the G50 series. I would buy the newest used one you can find.

newest used one? Not sure many people keep a written record of sun roof open closes/tilts

Look at your old one and view problems so you know what to look for in secting a replacement or just buy a new one.

Besure to keep the new one clean and well lubed or you will just get back to a failure mode.

Thanks everybody for the help. This project is going to be on hold for a bit.
