90 Q45 Newbie

hello everyone, I just got my first q45. I am honda lover, but i had to get the q45. its 90 q45 with a few problems, maybe u guys could help me out!!FIRST THE DIGITAL ODOMETER THING ON BOTTOM LEFT CORNER OF GAUGE CLUSTER DOESN NOT WORK, WHEN I TURN ON THE LIGHT IT LIGHTS UP BUT NO DISPLAY??2ND THE HEATER DIGITAL DISPLAY DOES NOT WORK?3RD THE RADIO HAS NO POWER, I HAVE A PIONEER 6 DISC CHANGER IN THE BACK AND THAT HAS POWER, BUT THE RADIO DOES NOT?I GOT THE CAR A FROM AN OLD GUYS IT HAS BEEN SITTING IN HIS GARAGE FOR OVER 5 YEARS, WITH HALF TANK OF GAS, AND THE WATER PUMP HAS A LEAK, I FOUND A NEW ONE AT SCHUCKS FOR 77 BUCKS.

Welcome!! You can get a lot of answers here as long as you research things as well. The first thing you need to know is that the 90 Q45 had plastice chain guides and if your car's previous owner has not had them changed to the metal chain guides, you should change them ASAP. If you don't those plastic guides fail, break and fall into the bottom of the engine and cause you to loose your engine just like that!!! No repairing it once that happens.

Second, the Heater/AC climate control screen is a common problem with the early Q's. Here's a link to get it repaired:For climate control LED Display failure:http://www.jerrytucker.netor you can buy a new used unit on E-bay or here in the classifieds.

With the Q sitting that long you really should flush the fuel system and transmission fluids. Change all the fluids at once.

Common problems with the early Q's:Chain guides-- 1st priority!!!Fuel pumps - Fuel pump controler as well if ran with bad fuel pump for too long. Bad fuel pump has a buzz from behind the back seat.Climate control display goes out. TransmissionDrive shaftFuel injector or two -- some last forever!EGR system cloggs upKnock sensorsO2 sensorsNeed to install external transmission coolerBe aware the car runs hotElectrical gliches as the car gets olderBose speakers failThese are just some of the things to look for. I didn't even mention the suspension.

For the most part, if taken care off, the VHDE45 engine will last forever!See if the previous owner has the maint. records for the car.

Other tidbits you'll hear from us.. Just so you know....Your Q is a "1st gen" and the Model is the G50. Anyway, welcome and search, search, search.You'll love the Q if you maintain it..

Try PopPoP in the Infiniti Parts forum in the Classifieds. He usually has good used parts. He has several threads started on 90-93 Q parts. He may have a water pump or whatever else you need parts wise.

If the water pump fails like their radaitor caps, you will lose your engine.

How much will you have saved then? Surely you don't think they will buy you a new engine?
