Bought a two owner 90 Q45t with 91K on it and then I found out about NICO from a friend driving a 95 Q45. What a wealth of information! You are collectively a great help to the novice Q owner.

First thing I learned is that I don't drive it until the chain guides are done. I did have it checked out by the local Seattle area dealer, but I am convinced they only hooked it up for an electronic diagnostic ($213) and never said a word about guides.

I got lucky because the service manual came with the car. I have downloaded lots of information about the chain guides already, and have started the work outlined by that guru, DAEDALUS. Now I find I am stuck on the small details. I am trying to set the drive pulley to TDC, but without a normal distributor I don't have an easy way to know when number one piston is on the compression stroke.

Feeling really stupid right now, but I sure don't want to foul this up.:help

Welcome! Who referred you?

Time to start wearing out that manual, especially the first half of the EM section if you're doing the guides. You need to remove the crank-angle sensor cover (3 screws) and take a look at the face of the notched wheel behind it. There's a groove in the face. It needs to point to the left when you line up the mark on the pulley with the cover. (Page EM-17 in my manual).

Thank you, Daedalus. I saw the diagram in the manual, but didn't recognize the significance of it. I'll really have to read the material more carefully. Just pulled the cover off and I am at TDC. Next step - I'm off to buy a chain wrench tomorrow!

Oh, NICO was referred to me by Paul Hecker, a fellow instructor at my school. I don't think Paul has registered, but I'll check on Monday.

Can't wait to get this job done, since I also have a bad #3 injector. Won't be on the road until after that.............John
