TCU communications, what codes does Consult or inside diagnostic say?

All shifting controlled by TCU, the gear position is just what you are asking for from TCU.

I talk to this guy on the phone occasionally, he called me yesterday and I tried ot walk him through self diagnosis (warm up vehicle, get into AT CHECK, shift to 3rd, press gas, 2nd, 1st, press gas, and it should give codes)... it woudlnt spit the codes out....

Just a thought ... if it's in safe mode ... have you tried rebooting the TCU? Disconnect the battery for a minute or two and see what happens.

This just happened Tuesday with my Accord - only 3rd gear - safe mode. I rebooted and it came back working fine.

With any USED transmission that has sat for a while, after the mandatory pan drop, filter replacement and magnet clean, DO AN ATF flush with BG Quick Clean for transmission to remove the varnish in the control shift solenoids and valve body.

JDM import parts are available because: The vehicle was in a wreck and junked, OR the vehicle was nearing 60,000 miles or 6 years and was deemed not worthy of rehabilitation to justify the $5,000 + rehabilitation fee.....so it was junked.

The good used ones get exported whole to China, Australia, any where Right drive works........ex British colonies.

Also was collections of not up to spec trannies which might have been replaced by dealers under warranty and never rebuilt [cores]...........plus maybe some 90-93 that were in excess after the redesign in 1994 not need for spares.

We are always very leary of imported JSM AT............much more risky than engines.

Plug in a Consult diagnostic computer and read the codes and look them up in FSM or replace the transmission and tcu with known good operating units.

Well, if you have the funds, you will be a popular guy on NICO. Think there are 3 necessary cards to cover all G50 models. Might have to fall back to your cultivated dealer service writer.

It could be that you simply bought a bad transmission. Over a year ago I bought a JDM transmission for my 90Q and had to get a refund because it was bad. I ended up eating the installation costs.

The 2nd transmission works like a charm. All in all, it still turned out much cheaper than most options.

We have a current 97Q that is now on JDM transmission number 3 [in the last 3 weeks] hopefully this one will last more than a week.....................we are happy to keep changing them [for our fee] but hope the customer finally gives up and lets us order a factory reman.

You must use a CONSULT to read the codes and parameters to develop a course of action.

The first thing to do assuming it is not a bad connection to tcu is a flush to try to get the valve body functioning from years of sutting and varnishing.

I never abandon a unit without at least a flush.

Use the Consult to read the codes. every nissan/Infiniti and 98% of specialty Nissan shops will have one.........even the 300z shops as the transmission is the same as 300zxtt unit.

want to infiniti and I got overrun clutch soleniod, tested system found the overrun clucth out of specs. should be between 20 -40 ohms and is testing at 81.78 rec.

so i an going to the transmission shop for the A and B and overrun soleniods form old transmission the soleniods are in spec. so it should work.

Do some research and find out WHY a solenoid goes up 20-40 ohms to 80+ ohms.................excessive heat and acidic ATF must somehow get to the windings/sealed connections.

It is not the 6 years of Japan use or the serious wreck but the sitting unused AFTER the use, waiting to be shipped to US then the sitting in US warehouses, then the installation without a flush and pan clean that usually does them in.

You are just buying a junkyard transmission sure a Japanese junkyard but still a junkyard..................JDM can also stand for Junkyard Demolition Method

This thread is a great reminder why for time and ultimately expense considerations, it is best to repalce with the Nissan remanufactured ones from Joe.

Unless you have a lot of time, of course or want to get really good at dropping and repalcing the transmission.

Do replace the rear main crankcase seal if you haven't already.
