Well, I started out ambitious and hopeful! I decided to do the timing chain guides on my 90 Q with 108k. The car ran absolutely flawlessly, but I figured I better get to it before it was too late.

I was able to complete the job with tips from some of you online, along with a few pages from the workshop manual. I buttoned everything back up, replacing most of the plenum hoses while I was at it. The good news, I turned the key and she fired right up.

The bad news is that something is not right! At an idle the engine is pretty smooth, but upon reving up to 2000-2500, a pronounced miss is apparent. The car has no power to move itself more than a few miles an hour.

Please help me get her back on the road.

Thanks,John

Maybe the timing is off a tooth? Idle should be much worse though... Did you pull the rocker covers? If not you'll probably need to pull them and the front cover again to see what's going on... not great news I know.

Recheck all vacuum connections and electrical connections. Did you replace the sparkplugs also?

If all your connections are fine, and after jiggling all the harness connectors, then the very next thing to do, aside from hooking it up to a Consult, would be a compression test. If your timing is off, I'm guessing you're not feeling a miss, but rather the engine fighting against itself...maybe the spark is happening way too early. If the compression comes in good, then my next guess would be that the CAS isn't installed properly.

I will gladly help anyone out with these. It was time consuming, but I thought the job was pretty straight forward. It was also a lot bigger, since I did the plenum hoses and the valve cover gaskets at the same time. I hear from Byron at T3, you can just pull the front covers and leave all the top stuff in place. That would save a ton of time.
