This is crazy.... I need to send this ECU back to Robert cause If I Keep this up, I'm going to jail. For those who are oblivious.... I received my ECU yesterday and installed it pronto....

zerothread?id=157019

I've been testing this thing on the highway and I think I need to take it easy now. Firstly... my Q45's engine is tight..... With no smoke whatsoever and glass smooth idle.....despite the fact that it has 195K...this thing has seen nothing but synthetic (since ownership) and hauls *** like nobody's business. I've driven a few Qs (92-94) and nothing pulls like a 90'...It's a big difference folks, believe me on this.

I've just been testing the ECU in short bursts of speed on the highway... tonight I had blinged out a Lexus SC convertible become suddenly interested in me while on I20 headed East here in Atlanta. Lemme tell you... I really wasn't even toying with the Lexus...my main interest was to see what speed my Nico ECU redline of 7300 RPM would net in 3rd gear. Lets just say this... I didn't have enough courage or highway to test. I effortlessly reached 150 MPH in 3rd gear at roughly 6500-6600 RPM. I say roughly because I was taking quick glances at the gauges... at that speed I'm looking for cops more than anything else as I'm sure you can understand. Anyway...the Lex was a distant light in the rearview once I let the beast loose. Bottom line... the Q is not built for 0-60 sprints...it's on the highway where this machine shines. I have no doubt that I can reach the speedo's max speed of 160 MPH in 3rd gear since I was at 150 @ 6500 RPM. I once heard of a guy caught by the cops at 178 Mph in Fla with a modified ECU.

With speed limiter gone...I wonder what possible top speed I could reach in fourth? I don't think I'll be finding out. Not around here anyway.

...Drew....

With 215/65/15 [26"] tires , 3rd gear is 480 rpms per 10 mph. 6600/480= 137.5 mph. Now 7300 rpm would be 152 mph. Different brands/age of tires grow in diameter from speed by different amounts. There is usually some TC slip at high power levels while accelerating.

You cannot trust speedometer as the calibration is approximate above 60 mph.

Anyway 138-142 mph is plenty fast in 3rd gear with the abliity to to exceed 150 mph in 4th at 5000 rpm.

I'm running 245/40 ZR18s. True...the gauges may be off at that speed but they're all I had. Going by what I see on the gauges, I have no doubt that top speed "160 MPH" can be achieved in 3rd.

I never touched fourth... as soon as I reached "150" I let off for several reasons. Main one is...I have kids.... but also my exit was fast approaching... I actually overran it and got off at the next... Last, it's two something in the morning in the morning (see time of my post) and I'm DWB. Not good to end up in Jail on a weekend as the Judge won't see you till sometime Monday afternoon. (At least that's what I've heard ) Would be nice if I could find one of those roadside radars on the highway... u know, ones that flash your speed as you approach as a (ahem) 'deterrent.'

Hey Dennis.... you know I'm not too far away from you...and I do have a digi-cam with movie mode. Maybe we can find a quiet road somewhere and 'produce' a short vid for the Nico members. You can bring the calculator along to keep me honest... ...Drew....
